Chapter 206

Elaine lounged lazily in her chair, a mocking smile curled at the corner of her mouth.

“Why should I help a father who doesn’t love his own daughter? Elaine said.

She didn’t care for James at all.

She had no idea about the Swanson family’s business, and Nina ad never brought it up.

All she knew was that James wasn’t fond of Nina.

It was just pathetic.

She thought, ‘If he never cared about her, then why bother having Nina at all?’

He just had her and then tossed her aside.

All these years, Nina never felt a mother’s love, much less a father’s.

If Nina hadn’t crawled down that mountain all by herself and bumped into Scarlet, she’d be dead by now.

The Swanson family could just brush off everything Nina had been through, as if it didn’t matter at all.

But Elaine wasn’t about to ignore it.

Except for Sarah and Ethan, she couldn’t care less about anyone else in the Swanson family.

Max just paused, speechless.

He cleared his throat and said, “No matter how Mr. Swanson treats Ms. Swanson, this whole mess is tied to the Swanson family. If something goes wrong, it’ll be hard to give Swanson an explanation.

“And come on, Mr. Swanson is still Mrs. Swanson’s son. There’s no way she’d just sit back and watch her own kid She’s definitely going to step in. If something happens to her…”

“That’s a good point,” Elaine said.

Elaine fell silent for a moment, and then shrugged. “Why not jus get rid of the Lowell family?”

Max was speechless.

‘Do we always have to solve things with violence?’ Max thought.

Before Max could say a word, Elaine cut in, “Nah, that’s way too olent. Mrs. Swanson wouldn’t like it.”

Max’s eyes lit up, and he nodded like crazy. “Yeah, yeah, let’s go with something a little more subtle.”

“Subtle, huh?” Elaine smirked, her tone playful. “Not impossible.

go

to jail.

With that, she snapped her laptop shut and got to her feet. “Con on, let’s go see Mrs. Swanson. We’ll help them out the easy

way.”

Her job was to protect Sarah.

She might not care for James, but if Sarah needed her, she wouldn’t mind lending a hand.

They headed downstairs one after the other, just in time to see Sarah stepping out of her bedroom.

“Mrs. Swanson,” Elaine called out, flashing a sweet smile as she walked over.

Sarah turned around, a little surprised. “Elaine?”

Elaine smiled, her eyes flicking coolly over James, who was trailing behind Sarah. Then she turned back to Sarah and said softly, “You’re heading out?”

“Yeah, I’ve got a few things to take care of,” Sarah replied.

Elaine shot a look at James. “Heading over to the Lowells? I’ll come with you.”

Sarah looked a little surprised. Then she glanced at Max standing behind Elaine and got the picture.

‘Max must’ve filled Elaine in,’ Sarah thought.

“It’s fine,” Sarah said with a smile. “It’s just a small problem. I can handle it myself. Elaine, I appreciate your concern, but this is something I want to take care of on my own.”

“Mrs. Swanson, with the way the Lowells are, do you really think they’ll just back down if you go over there?” Elaine said, her voice steady and unhurried.

Sarah just stared, lost for words.

Chances were, they wouldn’t.

Still, no matter how it’d turn out, she had to at least try.

“Leave it to me. I’ll get things sorted the way you want,” Elaine said.

“You…” Sarah hesitated.

It wasn’t that she doubted Elaine’s skills, but it just felt a bit awkward always letting someone younger

stand up for her.

“Mrs. Swanson, if I take care of this, it’ll probably end up better for everyone,” Elaine said, meeting her eyes. “Nina’s coming back soon.

“If she finds out the Lowells messed with you while she was gone she won’t let it slide. You know her temper.”

Sarah fell silent.

Nina’s temper was like gunpowder. One spark and she’d blow up

If they tried to handle it themselves, it’d probably drag on forever.
