Chapter 208
Chapter 208
In Frontierland.
Nina and Ryan finished their meal and were about to head to the airport.
Just then, Black Wolf’s phone rang.
He listened for a moment, glanced at Nina, and said, “Got it.”
After hanging up, he turned to Nina. “One of the girls wants to see you. She says Scarlet has something for you.”
He meant the group of women they’d brought back from the Crimson Syndicate’s base.
Right now, he’d made sure they were being secretly protected.
Nina’s brows knitted, a flash of anger flickering across her delicate features.
She was genuinely pissed.
For over ten
years, she’d thought she was the one Scarlet trusted most.
But now, Scarlet had to go through someone else just to tell her anything.
She felt completely out of the loop.
Ryan slipped his arm around her waist and whispered in her ear “Don’t be mad. Trust her. She has her reasons.”
Nina looked up at him, and that just made her even more pissed
She knew less about Scarlet than Ryan did.
She wasn’t the type to gossip.
But she couldn’t help but wonder why Scarlet was working with Ryan.
She was curious, but she couldn’t ask.
That feeling just sucked.
Nina took a deep breath. “Let’s go check it out.”
With that, she turned and walked off, not even sparing Ryan a glance.
Ryan rubbed his temples.
‘Nina’s pissed again, he thought, feeling a little helpless.
If it were up to him, he’d never keep secrets from her.
But rules were rules.
He’d give Nina the world if he could, but breaking the rules wasut of the question.
When Nina got to the girls’ place, everyone had just finished eating
She stood at the door, checking them out.

Chapter 208
She’d picked up plenty of skills from Scarlet over the years, and rided herself on being able to read people.
But even after all that time together, she still couldn’t see through any of these girls.

Surviving a hellhole like the Crimson Syndicate would’ve messed up anyone else, but these women looked totally unfazed, not even a hint of fear on their faces.
And besides, every single one of them knew how to fight.
Nina gave a wry laugh. She thought, ‘Scarlet really trained these irls well. They’re pros at hiding what they can do. I never had a clue the women around me were all such badasses.
She figured the little bit of martial arts she’d taught the nightclub girls didn’t even come close to what Scarlet’s crew could pull off.
Someone called out, “Nina, come with me for a sec.”
Nina looked up to see a woman in a green dress standing up. She only knew her as Moira. Her full name was a mystery.
Ever since Scarlet rescued her, everyone had just called her Moita.
Moira was five years younger than Scarlet and had a thing for dresses. She always walked with a little sway, showing off her curves every chance she got.
Nina’s gaze narrowed as she followed Moira into the small bedroom.
“Moira,” Nina said quietly, and then just stayed silent.
Moira leaned back against the wall, gave a little chuckle, and asked, “Are you mad?”
Nina just kept quiet.
Moira reached over and gently ruffled Nina’s hair, her tone soft and doting. “Scarlet keeps some things from you because she doesn’t want you in danger.
“Nina, you’re different from the rest of us. You’re like a pearl untouched by the world. Scarlet just wants you to have the best life possible.”
“She doesn’t want me in danger?” Nina scoffed. “So why am I getting pulled into this now?”
Moira went quiet.
After a long moment, she finally lifted her head, her face serious “It’s not that Scarlet wants you caught up in all this. Things have gotten way beyond her control,
“She trained you herself. Your brains and your skills are brilliant and you’re way ahead of the rest of us.
“When Scarlet’s in real trouble, you’re the only one she can count on.”
With that, Moira pulled out a piece of paper covered in tiny, cramped handwriting. “After you went back to the Swanson family, Scarlet gave this to me.
“She said if anything ever happened here, I was supposed to harit over to you.”
Nina took the paper and froze when she saw what was written of it.
It was a formula for a potion.
Moira said, “Scarlet never told me what this is for. She just said you’d know.”
