And then there was Miranda’s outfit: worn-out, cheap, faded jeans.
Her white T-shirt wasn’t any better. The graphic was washed out

The Hawthorne family is one of the biggest names in Betrico, and this is how they treat their own kid?’ they thought.
Loren was so furious that he could barely breathe. He snapped, Cheney, get everyone over here. If the Hawthorne family doesn’t explain today, I’ll put the whole Carroll family on the line and make the Hawthornes regret ever messing with us!”
They’d brought their own bodyguards with them when they came over.
But since they were just here to take Miranda home, it felt a little over the top to show up with bodyguards in tow.
So they had the bodyguards wait at a hotel nearby.
They never expected to walk into a mess like this.
“Okay,” Cheney said.
He pulled out his phone, ready to make the call, but Nina spoke up with a cold edge, “No need.”
Before Nina’s words had even faded, she shot forward in a blur. Nobody could even tell what happened. All anyone saw was that wherever she moved, bodyguards dropped like flies, groaning on the ground.
Everyone from the Hawthorne family was shocked.
Loren and Cheney were just as dumbfounded.
Before anyone could even react, Nina sent David sprawling to the floor and slammed her foot on his chest. Her voice was icy as she ordered, “Get your asses over here!”
Then, a group of people stormed in from outside the villa.
All of them were dressed in black, forming two lines in front of Nina.
The leader shivered involuntarily at the sight, adn then strode up to Nina and called out, “Boss.”
That was Sean, Simon’s brother.
He ran the Midnight Club in Betrico.
He’d been guarding Miranda at the Hawthorne residence, just like Nina told him to.
As soon as Sean stepped up, Nina sent him flying with a kick.
She cracked the whip at him. “This is how you protect her?”
Sean clutched his chest, wincing. “Boss, I’m sorry. I’ve been on guard against the Crimson Syndicate, just like you ordered.
But you told us to stay away from the Hawthornes, so we could get inside and had no clue what was going on. I should’ve had someone check on her from time to time.”
Nina stomped down hard on David, making him spit out a mouthful of blood.
The rage inside her was like a volcano, burning through every h of her body.

She knew she couldn’t really blame Sean.
She was the one who told him to stay away from the Hawthorne family. His only job was to make sure Miranda stayed safe.
Sean had been on guard against the Crimson Syndicate. As for the Hawthorne family, even Nina figured that with Edward around, nothing bad would happen to Miranda.
Sean might not have been directly to blame, but he was hopelessly inflexible. She told him to protect Miranda, and he just kept the Crimson Syndicate at bay and ignored everything else. He didn’t even send her a word.
“David!” Elizabeth snapped out of her shock and shrieked, her face twisted with rage as she glared at Nina. “Who are you? How dare you come into our house and attack my son?
“Do you have any idea what happens to people who cross the Hawthorne family?”
Nina turned around, giving the Hawthorne family a cold look before her eyes landed on all that fancy food spread out across the table.
Without waiting for anyone to react, she sent the whole table flying with a single kick.
Food went everywhere, making a total mess on the floor.
Nina sneered, her voice colder than ice. “Is that a threat?”
Without missing a beat, Nina kicked David hard. “Go ahead and how me what the Hawthorne family can do.”
Nina turned to Sean and commanded, “Detain every member of the Hawthorne family. We’ll settle each score one by one.”
