Emily flailed around like a frantic chicken. “What are you doing? Let me go! Uncle William, Uncle Jackson, Uncle Leon, help me!”
William hesitated, but finally couldn’t stand it anymore. He turned to Nina and said, “Ms. Swanson, Emily is just a kid. No matter what the adults did, you can’t blame a child for it. Please, go easy on her.”
“A kid?” Nina looked up at Emily. “Eighteen and still a kid? The Hawthorne family’s definition of a child is really something”
William looked embarrassed. “I get that you want to stand up for Miranda, but…”
“Since you care so much about her, why don’t you take her place Nina took a sip of her red wine, her voice calm and detached.
William was left speechless.
His eyes flicked over to the three people still screaming in the kennel, and he instinctively took a step back.
Nina waved her hand, and Sean threw Emily right in.
“Emily!” someone in the kennel screamed.
Nina caught a glimpse of someone holding Emily protectively in their arms.
Then came the desperate pleas. “Please, let Emily go! I’m sorry. won’t ever do it again. I promise!
“Emily’s just a kid! You can’t treat her like this!
“You heartless bastards! If you dare hurt Emily, I’ll tear you all to pieces!”
Nina looked up and saw Yvonne, screaming like a madwoman.
Emily was cradled in Yvonne’s arms, completely untouched by the dogs.
A cold glint flashed in Nina’s eyes as she turned to Miranda. “Lesson four: hit where it hurts.”
With that, Nina instructed Sean, “Go get a paternity test for Emily and Yvonne.”
Miranda’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Nina. “Aunt Nina, are you saying…”
Miranda thought, ‘Is Emily Yvonne’s daughter? No freaking way! She never even got married!
Yvonne did have a boyfriend once, but nobody ever figured out why they broke up. After that, she spent a few years overseas, and she’s been single ever since, living with the Hawthorne family.
Miranda wasn’t the only one shocked. William and Jackson look just as gobsmacked.
William was speechless for a while before he finally said, “Ms. Swanson, are you sure about this? Emily can’t be my sister’s kid. She never even got married. How could she possibly have a hild?”
“We’ll know for sure once we get the results,” Nina said, her eyelids lifting just a bit. “Don’t worry. My medical team is way more reliable than yours. There’s no chance of tampering or makes
William was left speechless.

Chapter 264
Nina’s words were laced with mockery. She clearly thought the Hawthorne family was useless.
They could screw up something as simple as a paternity test.
He wanted to snap back, but when he tried to speak, he found himself unable to say a word.
In that instant, his mind spun with memories.

Back then, Yvonne had brought Emily home, claiming Emily was David’s real daughter and that Miranda was just an imposter.
David had been a wreck ever since Ruby blocked him, and after vonne said that, he started to believe he’d mistaken the real child, and he thought that was why Ruby was so angry with him.
But David didn’t buy it completely. He’d raised Miranda for two months, and he’d grown attached to her.
So David had paternity tests done for both Emily and Miranda, and the results showed that both of them were his daughters.
David totally lost it. He yelled, “I’ve never been with anyone but Ruby in my whole life, so how the hell did I end up with two kids?”
At that time, Emily was holding a photo of Ruby and the bracele he’d given Ruby. Yvonne said she was absolutely certain that Emily was David’s child, and Miranda had nothing to prove it.
So David ended up believing Emily was the real daughter he had with Ruby.
As for Miranda, David was dead sure that some girl working at the club must’ve drugged him when he went looking for Ruby, got herself pregnant, and was trying to score a ticket to the high life.
