After all, he was always out at networking events, and every sing time, it was at Ruby’s club. He’d get blackout drunk all the time.
He figured that must’ve been when Miranda’s mom caught him his weakest.
That was why David hated Miranda so much.
He always thought Miranda’s mom had wrecked what he had with Ruby, and that was the reason Ruby cut him off completely.
William glanced over at the kennel, his brow furrowing deeply.
All these years, they’d never once questioned Emily’s identity, but now, everything seemed suspicious.
Jackson finally snapped out of his shock and walked over to William, lowering his voice. “William, what is going on? Who is this girl? Why does she dare to go after Mom and David in our own house?”
He’d just taken Emily out to meet Barry like David asked, and he had no idea how the whole family got turned upside down the moment they got back.
William rubbed his temples, looking totally helpless. “She’s Miranda’s aunt. She’s here to stand up for Miranda.”
William told him about how Nina had caught Miranda eating in the kennel.
Jackson frowned. “Well, I told David not to treat Miranda like that, but he just wouldn’t listen. And now her aunt saw the whole thing.
“If I were her, I wouldn’t put up with it either. But does Miranda even have an aunt? I thought her mom was an orphan.”
“I have no idea,” William said, still totally baffled.
He wanted to do something about it, but honestly, there was nothing he could do.
Nina’s way of handling things was just way too domineering.
She’d start something at the slightest provocation.
Right now, Nina was still cutting him some slack and hadn’t done anything to him yet, but if he kept talking, she’d probably toss him into the kennel.
“So you’re going to stand by and do nothing? Let Mom and Jackson get left in the kennel? Someone could get hurt, or worse,” Jackson said.
He knew Nina was standing up for Miranda, but those were his own family. He couldn’t turn a blind eye.
William let out a sigh. “Do something? How? She took down all ur bodyguards by herself, and the people she brought with her are all tough. What are we supposed to do?”
William waved his hand. “Just keep quiet and watch. Ms. Swanson knows Dad, so she probably won’t go too far.
At least it’s not going to end with someone getting killed, Willia thought.
Jackson could only stay silent.
With both William and Jackson keeping quiet, everyone else knew better than to speak up

For a while, the villa was dead silent, except for the occasional seams echoing from the kennel.

Loren and Cheney kept watching Miranda, itching to say something to her, but with Nina there, they could only keep quiet
for now.
But honestly, Nina’s way of handling things was downright cold-blooded.
If it were up to them, they’d probably just throw money at the problem.
But the Hawthorne family and the Carroll family were about equal in wealth. If they really went head-to-head, it’d just end in a stalemate.
And maybe the Hawthorne family would never change.
But Nina’s methods were the kind of thing people wouldn’t forget.
A few hours later, Sean, who’d gone for the paternity test, returned.
He walked straight up to Nina. “Boss, the results are here.”
