326 Chapter 326
326.Chapter 326
It was their old hangout, a place that they’d visited countless times before.
The mountains were always so quiet and peaceful. Whenever they came here, Ryan and Nina could spend the whole day just relaxing together.
Nina and Ryan were chilling by the riverbank.
As she watched the gentle flow of the water, Nina asked quietly Ryan, do you like kids?”
Ryan just sat there, not saying anything.
Simon told Ryan what happened when he called him.
Nina always acted like she didn’t care about anything, but deep down, she had a bit of insecurity.
She always felt like she just wasn’t likable, so her parents didn’t love her.
Sometimes, when Ryan and Nina were out and saw parents playing with their kids, Nina would just watch them for a long time, unable to look away.
Ryan knew that was something that hurt her, but he never knew what to say to make it better.
The more he tried to comfort her, the harder it was for her to let go.
She always said she went back to the Swanson family for revenge.
But to Ryan, it was obvious she just wanted to prove something to Vivian.
She wanted to show Vivian that she was outstanding, that she was smart enough.
And she wanted Vivian to regret it.
But obviously, Vivian would never feel any regret about what she did.
When two people who didn’t love each other had a kid, that child was just dead weight and a mark of shame to them.
And Nina was the living proof of that shame.
So, Vivian would never, not even for a second, regret tossing away that shame.
No matter how incredible Nina turned out, Vivian would never think she made the wrong choice.
Ryan pressed his lips together, and after a long silence, he finally said, “Nina, don’t let people who aren’t worth it get to you. There are plenty of folks out there who shouldn’t have been parents in the first place.
“Vivian’s not the only one. There are so many who just have kids and never bother raising them. Those kids end up stuck in a mess, and some never get out, no matter how hard they try.
“But you’ve got it better than most of them. You’ve got Scarlet. She may not be your real sister, but she treats you like her own. And you’ve got Sarah, who’s always trying to protect you and give you the best future she can.
“Nina, you’re not unloved. You’ve got plenty of people who care about you. Sometimes, family isn’t just about blood.”
“Yeah, I do have people who love me,” Nina said. She gazed out at the mountains in the distance, feeling a wave of calm
wash over her.
Ryan pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on her head, his voice gentle. “Nina, I know you didn’t break up with me because of Claire.
“You’ve seen too much of how cold people can be, and too many relationships that ended before they even began.
‘I know you’re scared of falling too hard, scared I’ll end up like those guys who don’t stick around, so you want to make sure you won’t get hurt.
“But Nina, you’ve only seen a small part of what love really is. There are plenty of people who stay together for life, like your grandparents. They were together their whole lives.
“And your uncles. Even if their wives are a little quirky, they still take their marriages seriously. And your dad, Mrs. Swanson manipulated him, but he had someone he truly loved, right? Even now, he still loves her.
“And then there’s my grandparents, my parents, Camden, and Deborah.” Ryan paused and then said, “You should look at these good examples of love, too.
“Nina, I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I promise v we dure day on us. You’re it for me, for life.”
Nina just stared at Ryan, not saying a word for o
Her heart was starting to lean toward Ryan.
Successfully unlocked!
Nina took a deep breath and sprang to her feet. “Ryan, let’s see what you’re really capable of. Time will tell.”
She wanted to keep herself in check. She couldn’t let love cloud her judgment.
