327 Chapter 327
327.Chapter 327
Nina and Ryan grabbed a bite at a restaurant.
Ryan was swamped with work back in Betrico, so he couldn’t stick around Riverdale for long.
In particular, they still had no clue about Martin and Matthew, and his bosses were breathing down his neck about the organ trafficking case. He had to look into the other main players, not just Martin and Matthew.
So, after leaving the restaurant, Ryan caught a flight back to Betrico.
Nina was about to head back to the Swanson residence, but something suddenly popped into her mind, and she decided to
take a detour.
She headed for the urban village and went to Scarlet’s courtyard

Nina glanced around, making sure no one was watching and there was no threat nearby, before stepping into the long- abandoned courtyard.
The yard was choked with weeds, and her medicine patch had been wrecked during the Crimson Syndicate’s last raid. Muddy boot prints were still stamped in the black earth.
Nina stared at the footprint, her dark eyes practically blazing with rage.
She took a moment to tamp down her anger and then looked up at the steps ahead, almost able to picture Scarlet sitting there in her red dress, seductive and striking, two fingers pinching a cigarette as she exhaled a lazy cloud of smoke.
Nina paused for a second, but didn’t linger. She kept moving deeper into the courtyard.
The last couple of times she’d left, it had all been so rushed that she never got a chance to really search the courtyard. She wondered if there were any clues left behind in this place.
Everything inside was plain to see. Furniture was overturned, drawers and shelves were all empty, and nothing was left but a thick layer of dust.
Nina didn’t pause, heading straight for the basement.
The basement was just as trashed as upstairs, a complete mess
Nina glanced around, ignoring the chaos on the floor as she stepped over empty bottles and jars, and then ran her hands along the wall, searching carefully.
She’d never been to Scarlet’s underground lab before, not even after returning from Frontierland.
Someone had been keeping tabs on her, so she had to wait until they finally let their guard down before she could come here.
She needed to figure out how to recreate the formula Scarlet had left behind.
But without the real thing, there was no way she could copy it.
So, she had to come here and see if Scarlet had left any hints lying around.
Suddenly, Nina’s hand brushed against a raised stone on the wall. She pressed down hard, and a section of the smooth wall sank inward, revealing a hidden compartment. Inside was an old, battered notebook. Its cover was painted with a vivid red spider lily.
Nina took out the notebook and put the secret mechanism in the wall back the way it was.
She tucked the notebook away and hurried out of the courtyard
As soon as Nina stepped out of the courtyard, her instincts flared, and she snapped her head to the side. A bullet grazed her cheek and buried itself in the wall behind her.
‘Sniper!’ Nina thought. ‘Figures. This courtyard’s still under surveillance.’
Nina smirked inwardly and then rolled across the ground, taking cover behind a nearby obstacle.
Two more bullets that were barely audible sliced through the air The shooter was clearly using a silencer, making sure not to alert anyone nearby.
Nina hesitated for a moment, then quickly pulled out her phone and sent Simon a text.
Half an hour later, Nina darted out from behind her cover.
Bullets whizzed past her, close enough to feel
“Nina, over here!” Simon called out.
Worst missing her skin. Successfully unlocked!
Simon screeched up in his car. He didn’t even hit the brakes. He spun the wheel in a sharp drift and sped off the way they
came.
Behind the car, Nina took a running start, vaulted onto the roof, and then dove smoothly through the open window into the

back seat.
Soon, the car sped off from the courtyard.
“Nina, what happened? Didn’t you say we should stay away from Scarlet’s place for now? So why did you decide to come here yourself?” Simon asked.
Once they were finally out of the sniper’s range, Simon let out a long breath and finally blurted out his questions
“Had to grab something,” Nina replied.
She pulled out the battered notebook she’d just found. Inside were pages of lab notes. Some sections were marked up in vivid red ink.
It looked like research into human mutations.
Finally, she had something to go on.
