The room was dead silent

Ethan’s thoughts were all over the place, fighting with each other

Two voices kept arguing in his head.

One voice sneered at him. It said, “Quit fantasizing, idiot. Elaine’s way out of your league, don’t even think about it.” But the other voice said, “Being with the woman you love is worth anything, even risking it all. Just go for it.”

Ethan wavered between the two voices battling in his mind, unable to make up his mind.

Suddenly, Elaine broke the silence. She asked, “Ethan, would you let me lose?”

Ethan looked up at her, dead serious. He replied, “I won’t let you lose. Never.”

With that, Ethan got up, threw on his clothes, grabbed Elaine’s hand, and pulled her out of the room. Elaine blinked in surprise. She asked, “Where are we going?”

“To your place to grab your family register,” Ethan said, his voice unwavering. “We’re getting married.”

In Riverdale, Nina stared at her phone, frowning hard after Ethan hung up on her.

Nina thought, ‘Something’s off.

‘Ethan’s voice was really off.

‘It was like he was trying to keep his voice down on purpose.

‘Maybe something really did happen to Ethan.’

“Nina, what’s going on with Ethan?” Sarah asked, worry etched on her face as she caught Nina’s uneasy look.

Nina pressed her lips together and said, “He might be in trouble. Let me look into it.”

Nina went upstairs, opened her phone, and quickly checked where Ethan was.

When she saw his location was at a hotel, she froze.

Nina thought, ‘A hotel?

‘Did someone kidnap Ethan at a hotel?’

Nina’s face was dark as thunder, and without a second thought, she gunned it straight to Seabridge. Riverdale wasn’t far from Seabridge.

It was only a three-hour drive.

But with her sports car, Nina made it to Seabridge in just two hours.

“Seabridge Highway Exit,” Ryan said. His voice came through Nina’s phone on speaker.

Nina was so anxious to find Ethan that she had Ryan track his location remotely.

Nina frowned and asked, “Ethan’s at the highway exit?”

Ryan replied, “Yeah. Wait, hold on.”

After a few seconds, Ryan said, “He’s turning back toward down own Seabridge now.”

Nina just blinked, at a loss for words.

Nina thought, ‘Damn it.

‘What the hell are these people up to?

‘While I was driving to Seabridge, Ethan’s location kept bouncing all over the place, from a hotel to some fancy villa, then the marriage office, a shopping mall, a movie theater, and a park.

‘And now he was at the highway exit, and then suddenly heading back to downtown Seabridge again? Seriously?

‘Are these kidnappers just playing games with me?’

“He’s heading back to the hotel now,” Ryan said coolly. “Nina, they probably know you’re coming. Be careful; I’ll get someone to back you up.”

Clearly, the other side had some top-tier hacker her on a wild goose chase.

Without hesitation, Nina kicked open the door to the room she’d gotten from the front desk, the one booked under Ethan’s

name.

Nina froze in her tracks when she saw who was inside.

“Nina? What are you doing here?” Ethan asked. He looked at her completely confused.

Ethan thought, ‘What the hell is going on?

‘Wasn’t Nina supposed to be in Riverdale?

‘How did she get to Seabridge so fast?’

Nina stared at Ethan and Elaine’s hands, their fingers laced together. She was so stunned it took her a moment to find her voice. She asked, “You guys?”

She still had a couple of silver needles tucked between her fingers.

If she hadn’t stopped herself just in time, those needles would’ve been flying across the room.
