Two hours later, back at the Sinclair residence, everyone was left speechless as they stared at the whole lineup of luxury gifts laid out in the living room.
Ethan walked straight up to Isolde and handed her the gifts he’d prepared. “Isolde, this is for you. Elaine insisted these gifts should go directly to you.”
Isolde stared at the check in her hand, completely at a loss. “W–What’s going on here?”
“Sorry, we didn’t ask for your permission before getting our mariage license,” Ethan said. “Even if the marriage was rushed, my feelings for Elaine have never been.
“We’re leaving Seabridge today, and I’ll be planning the wedding in Riverdale. Once everything’s ready, I’ll come back to bring you over.”
Isolde’s eyes welled up with tears as she nodded gently. “That’s good. You chose for yourself, so it can’t be wrong.”
It was so much better than marrying someone Elaine didn’t love just to be a pawn for the family’s benefit.
Ethan had dropped by the Sinclair residence more than a few times.
Even though he always came over pretending to be Elaine’s boyfriend, Isolde could tell there was nothing romantic going on between them.
Elaine had only brought him along to help her deal with her grandmother.
But Isolde had been around the block. She knew exactly what love looked like in someone’s eyes.
The way Ethan looked at Elaine was the same way Isolde used to look at Eamon.
Isolde could see it. Ethan truly cared about Elaine.
Isolde didn’t know why Ethan and Elaine had decided to tie the knot so suddenly, but deep down, she felt it was for the best.
It was the best choice for Elaine.
“You bastard!” Elowen snapped. “Elaine, do you have any respect for me at all? Marriage is a huge deal, and you just went ahead and got married without even telling me? How could you be so reckless?”
Before Elaine could say a word, Ethan shielded her behind him, his expression frosty. “You’ve never treated Elaine like your granddaughter, so don’t expect her to treat you like her grandmother.
“We didn’t come here to ask for your permission. We’re already itched. Whether you’re happy about it or not, it’s none of our concern.”
Ethan straightened up, locking eyes with Elowen. “Today, I’m here to make it official and to let you know I’m more than capable of keeping Elaine safe. She’s leaving Seabridge with me for now, but that doesn’t mean she’ll never come back.
“You’d better treat Isolde right. If anything happens to her, I won’t hesitate to risk everything to make you pay for it.”
Elaine stood behind Ethan, looking up at his back, and felt something stir inside her.
Elaine thought, ‘Man, he’s actually kind of hot when he stands up for me.
Elowen was so angry that she could only point at Ethan, left speechless for a long moment.
Ethan didn’t bother with Sarah anymore. He turned to Eamon, who was sitting next to Isolde. “Technically, you’re Elaine’s

“Elaine told me she always looked up to the way you and Isolde were together. You are high school sweethearts, married for years, and you never once lost your temper with her. You treated her like she was a princess.”
Ethan added, “But you cheated. You wrecked Elaine’s faith in love. You’re not a real father, and you sure as hell aren’t a real husband.
“Honestly, I can’t respect a man who can’t protect his wife and daughter. But you’ll always be her dad, and that’s something I can’t change. Still, I promise you this. I’ll treat Elaine right, better than you ever did.”
Eamon tried to say something, but in the end, he just looked at maine and finally managed, “Elaine?”
Elaine didn’t want to talk to Eamon. She reached out and took Ethan’s hand. “Let’s go.”
Ethan nodded and led her out. It hadn’t even been twenty minutes from when they walked in to when they left.
Nina’s car was parked outside the Sinclair residence.
As they drove off, Elaine gazed out the window at the Sinclair residence disappearing from view, feeling pretty down.
Ethan reached over and took her hand, wanting to say something to comfort her, but the words just wouldn’t come.
He knew Elaine was hurting because of what Eamon had done.
