“Are you guys serious right now?” Vivian was about to lose her mind. “Elaine’s a girl, and who she dates is her business. But Nina is my daughter! If those two get together, what will people say about the Swanson family?”
Linda jumped in, “Honestly, I really don’t care what anyone else thinks.”
Linda used to care, but now she couldn’t care less. People should just focus on being happy.
Judy still wasn’t totally comfortable with girls dating girls, but ever since Nina took over, she’d learned to be more tactful. She just said, “Vivian, as long as the kids are happy, maybe you shouldn’t worry so much.”
Vivian didn’t know what to say. Honestly, she really couldn’t be bothered to care. But Nina was her daughter, her own flesh and blood.
Vivian was about to head to Betrico. If word got out that Nina was dating another girl, people would look down upon her.
Sarah shot Vivian a cold look. “If you don’t even like Nina, then stay out of her business. I’ve already given my blessing to her and Elaine. If you have a problem with it, keep it to yourself.”
“Sarah-“Vivian wanted to say more, but Sarah just ignored her.
Sarah helped Elaine up and said softly, “You two might not have a relationship the world gets, but I do. Just be yourselves.”
Elaine blinked, totally confused. “Wait, why would the world not get my marriage to Ethan?”
“Wait, what?” Sarah was completely stunned. “You mean you and Ethan?”
“Who else would I pick? Your other grandsons are either brooding or just plain crazy. No way I’d go for any of them!” said Elaine.
Both Martin, the brooding one, and Matthew, the crazy one, were furious. They both felt the burn.
Sarah cleared her throat awkwardly. “Oh, so it’s you and Ethan.”
After the whole Elaine and Nina shock, this didn’t surprise her as much.
Elaine’s mouth twitched. “Wait, you guys didn’t actually think I was with Nina, did you?”
The Swansons didn’t say a word. They just gave her a look that said it all.
Elaine just stared at them, exasperated. “I’m not into women!”
Then she threw in, “Nina’s not into girls, either.”
Nina didn’t even bother to say anything. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen the Swansons jump to crazy conclusions. She was totally used to it. It wasn’t even surprising anymore.
“Oh, what a mess this turned into.” Sarah gave a dry laugh. “This one’s on me, total misunderstanding. But Elaine, are you and Ethan actually serious?”
Sure, Ethan was a decent catch. Still, with Elaine’s background, Sarah just couldn’t see her settling for someone like him.
“Of course, we’re serious.” Elaine whipped out their marriage license. “See? We’re official.”
“Holy crap!” One of the younger Swansons blurted out, “That was fast!”
Not a single hint, and now they were married.

Sarah was totally stunned, too. She’d thought Elaine and Ethan were just dating, but they were already married.
Vivian, Martin, and the others all looked like they’d just swallowed a lemon. Vivian was the most pissed off of all.
Her sons and her daughter, whom Vivian favored, always ended up losing to Nina or Ethan.
The two, whom Vivian couldn’t stand, were now stepping all over the ones she’d poured her heart into raising, humiliating her over and over.
Their actions were a slap in the face, showing her just how pathetic her blind favoritism really was.
Even with all her composure, Vivian was so furious that she nearly coughed up blood.
She clutched her chest; the Swansons‘ smiling faces were so glaring that it made her feel sick.
Vivian couldn’t stay there a second longer and turned to head upstairs.
Martin looked seriously pissed as he wondered, ‘How does that laser Ethan end up with a woman like Elaine? I have been hustling around all these families lately, but not a single one wants to marry their daughter off to me.’
He just didn’t get it and wondered, ‘Is Elaine out of her mind? She can have any guy she wants, so why, out of everyone, does she end up with Ethan? Is Ethan seriously the last man left on earth or something?‘
