‘He’s always saying, once Morris kicks the bucket, he’ll be the boss of the Nicholson family. Then nobody could stop us from being together. Twenty years of waiting, and still nothing.

She wondered, ‘Damn, Morris just won’t die. But did Lawrence ever really love me?‘

She was starting to wonder, ‘If he really loves me, why does he le me live with another man for so many years?‘

She couldn’t help but think of James. The Swanson family wasn’t exactly loaded. But James was one of those rare guys who actually knew how to love someone for real.

“I’m sorry,” Lily choked out, sniffling. “I know I didn’t stand up for you, and I know that hurt. I wanted to help, but you know how nobody in the Swanson family ever liked me, and Nina’s always been out to get me.

“If I spoke up for you, she’d just hate you even more for it. She’s just getting more amazing every day, and I can’t even keep up. I just wanted to help you and Nina fix things.

“She’s your real daughter, and if things stay like this, she’ll never see you as her mom.”
