Chapter 366
Once Elaine and the others left, Nina headed straight over to the Carroll residence.
They’d just finished eating, too.
Nina greeted Loren and Melody, then called Miranda and Philip over.
Philip gave Nina a wounded look. “Nina, you finally remembered me?”
He’d been hanging around here for who knows how long, and Nina hadn’t given him a second thought.
Ever since she agreed to take him on as her disciple, she’d totally forgotten about him.
If he didn’t know Nina lived just next door, he would’ve thought becoming her disciple was just a dream.
Nina gave a little cough, feeling a bit embarrassed. “Sorry, I’ve just been really busy lately.”
She honestly had totally forgotten about Philip.

She’d had plenty of disciples before, but most of them were smart enough that they didn’t need her to babysit them. If they ran into trouble, all it took was a nudge, and they’d figure things out.
Philip, though, was way too weak. With Philip, Nina would have to teach him everything from scratch.
Philip wondered, ‘Ouch, that stings.
“Go put on some gym clothes and come with me,” Nina said.
Philip’s eyes lit up. “Is it finally time to start learning?”
He had no idea why he needed gym clothes to study medicine, but just knowing he was finally about to start had him totally pumped.
Nina gave him a teasing smile. “Hope you can keep that energy up when the real training starts.”
Philip patted his chest with a grin. “You got it, Nina! I’ll be fired up the whole way!”
But then, twenty minutes later, Philip stared at the endless stretch of mountains ahead, completely speechless.
“Uh, Nina? Weren’t we supposed to be learning medicine?” he blurted out.
Nina said flatly, “This is the first rule of learning medicine. You need to be tough. From now on, you two are climbing this mountain, morning and night.”
“Wait, what?” Philip’s eyes nearly popped out. “We have to climb the whole mountain? Twice a day?”
‘Are you kidding me?‘ Philip screamed inside. ‘Is she trying to kill us with this?‘
Miranda shivered, her voice shaky. “Aunt Nina, can’t we do it some other way?”
That mountain looked insane, way too steep.
Miranda thought to herself, ‘No way I’m even making it halfway up there.
Nina gave Miranda a hard, serious look. “Listen to me. Your mon’s a hero, and she’s still out there, trapped behind enemy lines. Nobody knows if she’s even alive. You’re her daughter, her only weakness.

“If something happens to her, the enemy will come straight for you. Philip can quit if he wants; that’s his choice. But you? That’s not an option. You have to get strong, so no one can ever threaten your mom because of you.”
It was the first time Miranda had ever seen Nina this intense, and honestly, it freaked her out a bit.
But thinking of her mom, Miranda set her jaw and said, “I can do it. I will become strong. I promise.”
As soon as Miranda finished speaking, she headed straight for the mountain without a second thought.
Watching Miranda, a girl, take the lead, Philip hesitated for a moment, then quickly chased after her. “Nina, I’ll become strong, too!”
Philip and Miranda weren’t exactly gym rats, so climbing a mountain this steep was pure torture for them.
They hadn’t even made it halfway before they collapsed in a heap, gasping for air. Honestly, they were seriously ready to throw in the towel and call it quits.
But seeing Nina right there beside them, not even breaking a sweat, there was no way they’d let themselves look weak in front of her. They gritted their teeth and pushed themselves to keep up.
The early morning breeze was crisp, rustling through the branches with a soft creak.
All of a sudden, Nina stopped dead in her tracks, her face going cold.
Her body just knew something was off, and Miranda could feel danger creeping up on them.
Miranda clung to Nina’s hand, her voice shaky. “A–Aunt Nina.”
Nina glanced over at her, completely calm. “Are you scared of dead people?”
“Huh?” Miranda said.
“Dead people?” Nina repeated.
Both Miranda and Philip froze. ‘What is she talking about?‘ they both wondered, baffled. ‘Wait, did someone actually die here?‘
