After Matthew left the Swanson family, Max quietly stepped out and immediately called Nina to fill her in on what was happening.
When Max hung up, one of his men came over and reported, “Max, the Swansons have all been checked out. All of them are fine.”
Max nodded. “Go keep an eye on them. Have them stay at the hospital for now. Once things are settled here, they can come back.”
The man acknowledged and left.
Max looked up at the sky and let out a sigh. ‘Finally, everything with the Swanson family is coming to an end, he thought. ‘It’s about time I got back to Ryan.
***:
After coming down from the mountain, Martin didn’t waste a second. He headed straight for the westside of the city.
He’d already given the heads–up before arriving, and his guys on site were busy hauling boxes.
Martin walked straight up to the foreman and asked in a low, serious voice, “Is everything ready?”
“Just one last crate left. Once it’s loaded, we’re out of here,” the foreman replied.
Martin didn’t say a word. He opened the crate closest to him. Inside, a little boy, maybe three or four years old, was curled up. The kid had been drugged and was out cold.
Martin made sure the boy was still alive, then told the foreman, Remember, these kids have to stay alive until they reach the drop–off.”
Fresh organs were the most valuable.
“Relax. The stuff we gave them won’t do any harm. They’ll just be out cold the whole way,” the foreman assured. “They’ll come to once we get there.”
Just then, one of the guys ran over. “Sir, everything’s loaded up!”
Martin hopped in the car without hesitation. But just as he fired up the engine, the whole construction site suddenly lit up like day. Countless Enforcement Squad cars came barreling straight toward him.
Martin’s face went pale. ‘So, ever since that factory mess, the Enforcement Squad has been watching me, he thought.
Martin gripped the steering wheel, his eyes icy cold as he stared at the Enforcement Squad cars blocking his path.
Waverly was just an accomplice. Unlike her, Martin was the main perpetrator. Everything he’d done was enough to get him executed.
‘If I’m dead either way, then I’m going all in, Martin thought to himself.
Without a second thought, he slammed the pedal and charged straight at the Enforcement Squad cars.
The Enforcement Squad couldn’t risk a direct confrontation. They had to ensure Martin’s safety. Interrogating Martin was absolutely critical.
So when Martin sped toward them, they had no choice but to get out of the way.

As soon as Martin’s car sped off, the Enforcement Squad leader barked out, “Go after him! And remember, no shooting unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
Half the team jumped in their cars and took off after Martin. The other half stayed behind to secure the scene.
When Nina arrived, she caught sight of Ryan from afar. He was in uniform today, and instead of his usual elegant vibe, he looked every bit the righteous hero.
Nina paused for a moment, then walked over to him.
Ryan had just helped rescue the kids when he looked up and caught sight of Nina.
His usually stern face instantly softened, and he smiled warmly. “Hi, Nina.”
Nina stopped in front of him, hesitating for a second. “When did you get here?”
She had to admit that Ryan always drew a clear line between work and feelings.
Normally, Ryan would always give her a heads–up before going anywhere.
But this time, with her family caught up in the case, Ryan said he’d keep things professional between them, and he really meant it, with not a single call.
Nina didn’t think there was anything wrong with that.
She and Ryan might have different roles, but they were on the same side. If it were her, she’d keep her distance, too.
But still, Nina couldn’t shake off that strange discomfort in her heart.
“This afternoon,” Ryan said, his lips tightening a bit. “Max filled me in that you were planning to make a move on Martin today.”
