Because Henry bombed his IQ test, Judy’d always put him down, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. Like Joanna’s kids, he constantly got the cold shoulder.
But Nina didn’t approve of Henry’s proposal out of kindness. It was because the proposal was genuinely impressive.
During lunch with Elaine yesterday, she’d spotted Henry at the front desk and had the receptionist bring up his proposal.
The proposal was bold and innovative, so she approved it immediately.
She already planned to give the project to the Swanson family, so Henry’s impressive proposal was just a bonus.
“I really have to thank you. Without you, I’d still be invisible,” Henry said. “Don’t worry. I’ll give this project everything I’ve got. Your investment is safe with me, I promise.”
Nina raised an eyebrow. “You believe me?”
Henry nodded firmly. “Absolutely. Getting a project with SN Corporation is usually impossible. But this went through so easily. I don’t think it’s because you have some special connection with the CEO.”
He hesitated, looking embarrassed. “SN is huge. Their CEO wouldn’t approve a project just for some woman.
“And honestly, if you don’t care about Ryan, there’s no way you’d be interested in some old guy.
“That leaves only one possibility: you’re the CEO of SN.”
Nina smiled, “Smart thinking.”
Henry scratched his head, looking a little awkward.
Just then, Nina’s phone buzzed with another message. She glanced at it, put her phone away, then looked at Henry and said, “Protect what’s yours.”
“Don’t worry,” Henry smiled, “Now that I finally have a shot, no way I’m letting anyone steal it.”
Nina arched her brow, gave him one last look, and then walked away without another word.
When Nina arrived at the Foster residence, Ryan was seated on the couch, legs crossed elegantly, a cigarette between his fingers.
Two rows of bodyguards in black suits flanked him. Directly in front stood a woman in her thirties. Judging by her uniform, she was a maid.
Spotting Nina, Ryan quickly stubbed out his cigarette, got up, and said, “Let me cook for you.”
Nina didn’t say no. She’d deliberately skipped dinner at the Swanson residence because she was craving Ryan’s cooking. After two years with him, her taste buds had gotten spoiled rotten.
‘How I wish Ryan hadn’t mess around behind my back. Or I never would’ve let a guy like him go, Nina sighed silently.
If Ryan could read her mind, he’d shouted, “How many times do I have to say it? I didn’t cheat!”
Once Ryan finished cooking, everyone else in the Foster family came downstairs.
Maria spotted the food and rushed over. “Oh wow, Ryan cooked this. I’ve got to try it.”

She reached for her fork, but Ryan state hed it away. “That’s for Nina Yours isn’t ready yet,” he said.
Maria tell silent. ‘Now that he’s got a girlfiend, he’s forgotten all about me, she thought, giving Nina a wounded look.
Nina felt awkward. She cleared her throat and said, “Let’s eat together.”
“Sounds good!” Maria exclaimed. Without hesitation, she sat down and started eating.
Ryan stared, shooting Nina a look of silent complaint.
Charles and Zachary quickly joined, not wanting to miss out.
Before they could grab a bite, Ryan pulled all the dishes to Nina. “Nothing left for you guys. The maid will cook something later.”
‘Heartless brat,’ Charles and Zachary thought.
Ignoring the bitter looks around him. Ryan poured Nina a glass of milk and sat down next to her. “Elaine’s still on her way back, and my mom didn’t have an episode last night.”
Nina nodded, glancing at the woman standing in the living room. “So you caught the poisoner yesterday.”
“Yeah,” Ryan said, his tone flat, “She’ll be thrown to the wolves soon.”
Nina kept eating, unfazed. “Brutal.”
Ryan grinned, leaned in, and whispered in her ear. “I’m even more brutal in bed.”
