Chapter 41
Nina paused, then swung at Ryan.
Ryan caught her fist. “I’m brutal? Nina, you’re way more brutal than me.”
‘You’re always plotting to kill your husband, he thought.
Nina glanced at her hand in his grip, a smirk tugging at her lips. “I’m done treating your mom.”
Ryan immediately let go. “Don’t be so heartless,” he said, his eyes looking wounded and accusatory.

Nina slouched back in her chair, grabbed Ryan’s collar, and yanked him close. “Heartless? Do I need to crush your balls to prove I have a heart?”
She smiled, but her eyes were glacial.
Ryan frowned, feeling the murderous vibe coming off Nina. For a second, she’d seriously considered taking him out.
He pulled Nina in by the neck, their faces just inches apart, close enough to kiss.
His eyes bore into hers, his voice husky and grave. “If you’re gonna send me to death row, at least give me a good reason, okay?”
Before Nina could respond, he added, “And don’t use the engagement as an excuse. My family set that up behind my back. I’ve never betrayed you.”
Nina locked eyes with him and grabbed his chin. “Guess why I call Lily your fourth backup girl.”
Ryan froze, then shot to his feet, his face stone-cold. “That’s crossing the line. If you’ve got a legit reason to break up, fine. But I won’t let you trash my name like that.”
Nina scoffed, standing up to face him. “Cheating and still acting all high and mighty? You’re the first guy I’ve ever seen pull that crap.”
Ryan was totally pissed. “I never cheated,” he growled, his voice low and heavy!
Nina didn’t want to get dragged into this any further. She said coolly, “I helped Grace because you’ve treated me alright all these years. But that doesn’t give you a free pass.
“After I save Grace, don’t come bothering me again. Otherwise, I won’t mind making you pay for every bit you owe me for betraying me.”
Without waiting for a response, Nina turned to Maria and asked about Grace’s room. Maria told a maid to show her the way upstairs.
Nina didn’t even give Ryan another look as she followed the maid upstairs.
Once Nina was gone, Maria smacked Ryan hard on the back. “You jerk, you really cheated?”
Ryan stared after Nina, feeling both angry and helpless.
He couldn’t understand why Nina thought he’d cheated. Most of their time together, he’d been right by her side. When not with her, he was just handling business. He’d never even had a chance to get close to another woman.
Besides, he never felt anything for anyone except Nina, so where did this cheating nonsense even come from?
But Nina was so convinced he’d cheated. Clearly, something had happened that he didn’t know about. He needed to dig

As Ryan stayed silent, Maria snapped, “I’m talking to you! Did you really mess things up with Nina? How could you be such a jerk?”
Ryan was still fuming, growling, “How many times do I have to say it? I didn’t cheat.”
“If you didn’t cheat, why would Nina be so sure?” Maria shot back. “She looked like she had rock-solid proof. So what the hell is going on?”
Ryan rubbed his temples. “I wish I knew.”
