He’d been blindsided by the cheating accusation, with no way to clear his name. The worst part was that Nina wouldn’t believe a word he said.

Maria stared at Ryan for ages before finally saying, “Nina wouldn’t make this up. You need to figure out what really. happened, or this whole mess is gonna explode.

“You’re sharp, Ryan. Nina’s a good girl. If you’re serious about her, treat her right. Don’t let her down.”

Maria had seen enough in life to recognize true love, and it was crystal clear in Ryan’s eyes whenever he looked at Nina.

Ryan was cold to everyone else, but with Nina, he was a whole different person. He treated her like she was his treasure; there was no way he’d ever cheat.

But Nina wasn’t the type to make a fuss over nothing. If she was this convinced Ryan had cheated, there must be some kind of misunderstanding between them.

‘Nina’s the daughter-in-law every family dreams of. Gotta help Ryan keep her, Maria thought.

Ryan narrowed his eyes. “Yeah, I’m getting to the bottom of this.”

Upstairs, Nina entered Grace’s room and started checking her pulse.

Grace lay obediently on the bed, letting Nina examine her. Her eyes never left Nina for a second.

Nina noticed, gave her a brief glance, then focused back on the pulse check.

Grace looked Nina up and down and blurted out, “You’re gorgeous.”

Nina’s fingers paused. “Thanks,” she said, her voice calm.

“For real, though, what do you see in Ryan?” Grace clicked her tongue. “He’s always got a poker face, totally boring and ice- cold. Besides that face that inherited all my good looks, he’s got nothing to show for himself.”

Nina’s lips twitched. “Guess I must’ve been blind.”

Grace nodded. “Yeah, probably.”

She paused, then suddenly switched gears. “But bad taste in guys is fixable, right? Ryan says you’re an amazing doctor. So, can you cure it?”

“Yep, already did,” Nina said with a casual shrug. “That’s why I dumped him.”

Grace fell silent for a moment. “Might as well stay blind then. Sure, I complain about Ryan all the time, but he’s still my kid. It’s not easy for him to find a wife he likes. I can’t let you walk away.

“I really like you. Why not give him another chance? I’d love to have you as my daughter-in-law.”

Nina looked up at Grace, her face serious. “Thanks for the compliment.”

Grace thought, ‘So that’s a definite no? Ryan’s always been so full of himself-good looks, money, girls falling all over him.

But Nina couldn’t care less.

‘She’s got looks and cash. If she wanted a hot guy, she could get one in a heartbeat. Ryan doesn’t have a single advantage over others in her eyes.

‘I finally find a daughter-in-law, and yet she’s about to bail. What should I do? Who can help me?’

Nina continued checking Grace’s pulse without another word.

After a while, she said, “The poison hasn’t spread. Once the Poisonous Herb arrives, I’ll cure you.”

Grace paused, then spoke up doubtfully. “Am I really poisoned? I feel totally fine, eating, sleeping, living my normal life. Doesn’t feel like I’m poisoned at all.”

Nina pressed her lips together. After what felt like forever, she said, “If you want to know what it’s like when the poison hits, we can wait until it flares up before I treat you. But I can’t guarantee you’ll survive.”

Grace went silent. ‘Come on. I was just kidding. No way am I letting that poison actually get me.’
