As soon as he said that, everyone working in the lab stopped. They all turned to look at Nina at the same time.

The next second, an old man in a protective suit strode over. “Are you serious? She’s barely twenty, and you want her to run the Betrico Zenith Research Institute, huh?”

It was Qadir Goodwin. He pulled down his mask, his face full of displeasure.

During the selection for the head, he had lost by just half a point. He had been preparing to fight for it this year, and then Titus showed up with Nina.

All his hard work went down the drain in an instant.

He had trouble accepting that Nina would be the head of the Betrico Zenith Research Institute, let alone Qadir.

Titus cleared his throat and said, “Mr. Goodwin, this is Mr. Quentin’s decision.”

Qadir frowned. “Mr. Quentin?”

Titus nodded. “Mr. Quentin gave the order directly.”

“This is absurd.” Qadir snapped, spittle flying as he spoke. “Does he think this place is some kind of joke? How can he just drop someone in here out of nowhere and make her the head?

“This lab is full of medical geniuses. It is not a playground for wealthy girls to polish their resumes.”

Qadir shot Nina a fierce glare. “I don’t care who you know or where you come from. This institute isn’t here for you to mess around with. Please leave.”

Nina had only just arrived in Betrico early yesterday morning. She went straight to the mental hospital, pulled an all-nighter there without sleep, and then headed straight to the Betrico Zenith Research Institute.

She looked seriously annoyed. “Meeting in the conference room in ten minutes.”

Nina turned and walked straight into the Betrico Zenith Research Institute, not even sparing Qadir a second glance.

Qadir felt completely insulted. He stepped forward, blocking her path. “Stop right there.”

Nina stopped in her tracks, fixing Qadir with a glare. She hadn’t slept all night, and her eyes were blazing red from

exhaustion.

Qadir caught her stare and instinctively backed away.

Nina stepped forward, standing in front of Qadir, her voice slicing through the air like frozen steel. “I’m here to do research, not waste time talking to you. Conference room in ten minutes, or go home. I don’t need useless people.”

Now, everyone else in the institute was pissed off.

A guy with glasses, Owen Rowe, jumped in. “Who do you think you are? Mr. Goodwin is the top expert here. He’s done so much for the institute and the country. How dare you talk to him like that?”

Nina looked up calmly and walked toward Owen. “Are you questioning me?”

“Yeah, I am.” Owen straightened his neck, defiant. “Everyone here has gone through rigorous selection and countless research projects. How dare someone who sneaked in immediately become the head of the institute?”

Owen didn’t even let Nina respond before jumping in again. “Fine, you got in through connections, but who gave you the right to call us useless?”

Nina squinted, almost kicking instinctively. Then she remembered Sarah’s words before leaving. She told her to keep calm.

Her grandma was worried she’d cause trouble out there and couldn’t watch over her.

Though Nina wasn’t afraid, she wanted her grandmother to feel at ease, so she held back her anger and walked toward Owen.

Owen met Nina’s eyes, panic rising. “W-What do you want?”

Nina stood right in front of Owen, her tone cold as steel. “You’ve been on this project for five months and have only gotten five percent done. Why are you still here?”

Owen’s face flushed violently.

This project had been the greatest setback since he joined the institute. Five months, and not a single breakthrough.

He was running on just three hours of sleep a night, desperate to move the project forward, but no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t make any real progress.

Months of stress were taking their toll, and now Nina mocked all that work.

Nina didn’t even spare Owen a glance. She just swept her eyes over the crowd, her voice cold: “You’ve got five minutes left.”

Then she walked straight into the conference room.

Everyone behind her was fuming with anger.

“What was that look? Did she look down on us? Is she crazy? How dare someone who slipped in through connections disdain

us?”

“Just because Mr. Quentin is backing her, she thinks she can throw her weight around. This institute isn’t her playground. I’m not going to that meeting. Let’s see if she can really do anything to me.”

“Yeah, we were all hired at high salaries. Even with Mr. Quentin behind her, she can’t touch us. She can’t afford these losses.”

Once Nina walked into the conference room, she just sat down, calm and collected, waiting quietly.

Three minutes passed, and not a single person showed up.

Nina sneered, thinking, ‘Good. Guess they have no idea what they’re doing.

With thirty seconds remaining before the five-minute mark, Nina was about to step out when the conference room door

swung open.

A girl with a ponytail slipped in, nervously saying, “Hi, Ms. Swanson.”

Nina looked up and gave the girl a quick once-over.

She seemed to be in her early twenties, petite, and actually pretty cute,

Nina had already reviewed everyone’s files before she came, but this girl wasn’t in any of them. She assumed she was just a

student.

Nina leaned back in her chair and raised an eyebrow at her. “Pretty brave of you to show up. Aren’t you worried those folks outside will go after you?”

The girl kept her head down, clearly nervous. “It’s not easy to get into this place. I don’t want to get kicked out.”

She wanted to fit in, but more than anything, she didn’t want to be expelled. She didn’t know if she’d be targeted later, or if Nina would be forced out, but she couldn’t gamble on that.

Nina shot her a look. “What’s your name?”

“Michelle Moore,” she answered, her voice soft and timid.

“Are you a student?” Nina asked.

Michelle nodded. “Yes.”

“Who’s your mentor?” Nina pressed.

Michelle glanced up, then quickly looked away. “Mr. Owen Rowe.”

Nina scoffed. “That loser?”

Michelle just froze, not daring to say more.

Nina caught Michelle’s nerves, checked the time, stood up, and said, “Since you’re here, get the Project c175 files organized. I’ll need them in a bit.”

Then Nina strode out without another word.

Once Nina was gone, Michelle let out a sigh of relief. She didn’t know why, but Nina felt even scarier than Qadir and Owen.

When Nina walked out, everyone remained at their stations, immersed in their work. They barely looked up before burying themselves in work again, acting like she wasn’t even there.

Someone even scoffed under their breath.

Nina didn’t even look at them.

Just then, Simon and Patrick walked in with a squad of security guards. Simon strode straight up to her. “Boss?”

“Clear this place out,” Nina said.
