Nina’s fingers clenched as she told Simon, “Get someone to check Jason’s recent activities. I want every single detail.

Simon froze for a second, surprised. “Jason?”

He thought, ‘Isn’t he Ryan’s best friend? Why does Nina suddenly want to look into him? Could it be—’

Simon’s expression darkened. “I’ll check him out myself.”

Suddenly, Nina’s phone rang. She glanced at it and found it was Black Wolf, so she picked it up right away.

Black Wolf said, “Ryan is in Frontierland Delta District. His GPS signal is weak; I can’t pinpoint his exact location for now.”

Nina frowned. She thought, ‘That place is rife with hostile forces. Is Ryan—’

Nina said, “Send me your location. I’ll track him myself.”

Nina hung up the phone and asked Simon, “How much longer until we get to my place?”

Simon snapped back to reality. “Five more minutes. I got you the closest penthouse to your institute. Wylder’s place is too far away.”

With that, Simon floored the gas, and what should have taken twenty minutes was over in a flash.

Once home, Nina didn’t pause for a moment. She pulled out her laptop, her fingers dancing over the keys as she got to work.

She only relaxed when a red pin showed up on the laptop.

She had always trusted her hacking skills, but after getting hacked by the Nicholson family last time, she couldn’t help but second-guess herself now.

Fortunately, tracking Ryan’s location this time was much easier.

Nina immediately sent Black Wolf Ryan’s exact location and shot off a quick text. [Don’t let anything happen to Ryan, no matter what it costs.]

Jason’s face fell the moment he saw Claire’s swollen eyes. “Claire, what’s wrong? Did someone hurt you?”

Claire sniffled. “It was Nina. She almost kicked me out of the Betrico Zenith Research Institute.”

“Nina?” Jason gritted his teeth. “How dare she?”

Claire grabbed Jason’s hand, tears streaming down her face. “Jason, what am I supposed to do? Nina’s got Ryan backing her up, and she’s just throwing her weight around at the institute. There’s no future for me under her.”

Jason froze. “How’d she even get in there?”

The Betrico Zenith Research Institute was a top-level, state-run facility. Jason had seen firsthand how much Claire had to struggle and work her ass off just to get in.

Jason exploded. “What? Does Nina know what she’s doing?”

Claire’s touch made Jason flutter. He was ecstatic, almost overjoyed.

“Claire, don’t worry. I’m here for you,” Jason said, grabbing her hand. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”

Claire hesitated. “Ryan cares about her so much. If he ever found out… Ugh, just forget it. It’s pointless.”

A sharp look flashed in Jason’s eyes. “That’s easy. Sure, Ryan is all about Nina, but he’s a total neat freak. He won’t touch anything that’s been used by someone else.”
