“Sophia, are you out of your mind? Your grandma went to all the trouble to get Nina to come over, and you just had to piss her off and make her leave? Did you forget every bit of etiquette you learned growing up?” she snapped
Sophia was already feeling miserable. As if it wasn’t bad enough that her grandparents were siding with Nina, now her mom, who’d always spoiled her, came in and didn’t even care about the details, just went straight to scolding her.
Her frustration hit its peak. “Is Nina the only one you ever care about? Do you even see me, your own daughter? You don’t even bother to ask what happened, just jump straight to blaming me. Are you even my parents?”
The more Sophia thought about it, the angrier she got.
‘Has Nina got everyone in this family wrapped around her finger except me?’ Sophia fumed to herself.
Grace couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief at how ridiculous it was.
Maria had already called her on the way back and filled her in on the whole story.
But Sophia didn’t look the slightest bit guilty; she just stood her ground like she’d done nothing wrong.
Grace tossed her bag onto the table. “So you think I’m not asking what happened? Fine, then tell me, why did you make Nina leave?”
Sophia shot to her feet, her voice cracking as she screamed, “What do you mean I made her leave? She was the one who hit me!”
Tears streamed down Sophia’s cheeks. “Grandma and Grandpa didn’t stand up for me; they took Nina’s side, forced me to apologize, and even threatened to kick me out! She stormed into my room, hit me in front of everyone, and now I’m supposed to apologize?”
Grace crossed her arms, staring coldly
at
Sophia. “So tell me, why did she hit you?”
“It was just because I made a few snide remarks, okay?” Sophia wiped her tears, but they kept coming. “I came downstairs, saw Nina, and had no idea who she was. I just assumed she was one of those girls chasing after my brother.”
“Fine, let’s say you really didn’t know who she was at first. But what about after that?” Grace fixed Sophia with a piercing
stare.
“Didn’t she tell you who she was? Didn’t she mention that your grandma invited her? Or are you seriously telling me you don’t know the one your brother cares about most is Nina?” she said.
“I…” Sophia was speechless.
Seeing Sophia at a loss, Grace’s tone grew even colder. “So, are you telling me Nina hit you just because you said a few words? You really didn’t say anything nasty to her?”
Sophia stayed silent, refusing to answer.
Nina didn’t hit her just because of a few casual remarks.
At first, Nina was actually pretty reasonable and polite.
She made it clear that Maria had invited her over.
But Sophia thought Nina wasn’t good enough for Ryan, so she ended up saying some really mean stuff.
‘So what?’ Sophia fumed, her anger burning hotter.

Even if I spoke harshly, that’s no reason for Nina to lay a hand on me, especially in my own home! she thought.

Grace’s face grew even darker. “You screw up, and instead of owning it, you just stand there all high and mighty, like you’re totally in the right and don’t even feel a bit sorry. Sophia, when did you start acting like this?”
Sophia snapped, “So what if I don’t like her? What about it? Someone raised by a nightclub hostess. How could she ever measure up to Claire? I’m going to make her give up. I’m telling her straight: I will never accept her as my sister-in-law?”
Grace let out a cold laugh. “Oh, is that so? Since when did you start running the Foster family?”
