Chapter 479

But he still couldn’t sleep, so he’d just sit up there on the roof, just thinking about stuff.

That was when he caught sight of them hauling those boxes up to the mountain.

He’d been sneaking around the back of the mountain a lot these past few days, just trying to figure out what was inside those boxes.

“You haven’t tried going up the mountain out back?” Nina asked

“No,” Ryan replied. “They keep a tight watch on it. There’s no way for me to get in.”

Nina paused for a moment, then said, “I need you to work with me. Can you do that?”

“Yes,” Ryan answered without hesitation.

Even though Ryan couldn’t recall ever teaming up with Nina before, he just had a feeling that the two of them would work together perfectly.

No one knew what else Nina said to Ryan after that.

Once they finished talking, Ryan and Felix left.

Nina headed back to Veda’s room once more.

Once she finished doing Veda’s makeup, Riggs and Zuri came back in.

Nina and Elaine instantly acted scared, putting on a convincing show of fear.

Riggs and Zuri just gave them a cold glance, but when their eyes landed on Veda’s makeup, they looked satisfied and nodded.

Zuri looked at the time and said, “The villagers should be here any minute now. Go wait in your room.”

Veda hesitated, uncertainty flickering in her eyes. “What about Ethan?”

“He’s at the village chief’s house, obviously. He’ll be brought over soon to spend the wedding night with you,” Zuri said coldly.

After giving their instructions, Riggs and Zuri left the room.

Soon enough, someone came in bringing dishes of food.

Veda was old enough to get married, and the Wilson family had been preparing for her wedding for a long time.

Even the tables and chairs had been arranged in advance.

It was all done without much efforts.

Even though Phoenix Village was tiny, they still managed to pack twenty tables for the wedding feast.

It felt like pretty much the whole village was there.

At six o’clock in the evening, the wedding was about to begin.

Ethan was brought over to the Wilson family’s house.

Riggs and Zuri probably figured Ethan would cause a scene if he woke up, so they thought it was better to keep him knocked

out.

After all, nobody wanted any crying or drama on a wedding day

The wedding followed the old traditions of Phoenix Village, with all the classic rituals and customs.

Ethan was pretty much forced to go through the whole ceremony with Veda, and as soon as it was done, he was sent straight to her room.

As for Nina and Elaine, after they finished Veda’s makeup, Riggs and Zuri assigned people to guard them, making sure they couldn’t go anywhere.

Once Veda and Ethan finished the ceremony, the villagers started enjoying the meal.

Before long, everyone at the wedding just collapsed, one after another.

After Nina and Elaine dealt with the two guards, they stepped outside and saw that every single villager who’d come to the wedding feast was out cold.

Veda heard the commotion and rushed out, totally floored when she saw the whole yard full of people passed out. “How did you do this?” she gasped, her eyes wide with shock.

She remembered Nina had mentioned they’d come to check out the village before.

But back then, Nina’s knockout powder hadn’t worked on anyone here.

But how did she make it this time?

Nina replied coolly, “They’ve all got parasites in their bodies. Those things can flush out toxins on their own, so my knockout powder was useless against them.”

“Then how did you…” Veda stammered, still trying to wrap her head around it.

Nina replied calmly, “I used the parasites you gave me and, by the way, bred another kind of parasite.”

Veda was stunned. She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Nina was capable of breeding a parasite.
