On the wide road, Ethan rode his limited-edition motorcycle, whooping with pure joy. Nina had never seen him this excited back at the Swanson residence.
Just owning a bike he loves can make him this happy?’ Nina thought.
At a red light, Ethan stopped and turned to Nina, grinning ear to ear. “Nina, you know what? This is honestly the happiest day I’ve ever had.”
Nina lowered her eyes slightly. “You were never happy before?”
Ethan went quiet for a moment. “Nope. Growing up, I was always living in others’ shadows. Even when we tried to comfort each other, it never felt like real happiness. We were the kids Mom never wanted.”
When the light turned green, Ethan revved up the engine, his voice getting louder. “Later, I moved in with Grandma. She looked out for me, so things got better. But nothing ever truly made me happy.
“Today’s different. I’m riding my dream bike, hanging out with my little sister, All that crappy stuff seems to fade away.”
Nina pressed her lips together. Since returning to the Swanson family, she’d never really taken the time to understand Ethan.
He always stepped in when Vivian gave her a hard time. But she’d forgotten that he was also one of the kids the family had never truly cared about.
He was a Swanson, but his clothes were always from obscure brands. With only 30 thousand to his name, he’d blown it all on a necklace to make her happy.
Meanwhile, Martin strutted around in designer suits worth hundreds of thousands. Lily got millions in monthly allowance and drove a one-million-dollar luxury car.
Ethan, a real Swanson, lived worse than Lily, an adopted daughter.
Nina wanted to say something several times but held back.
After about ten minutes, they pulled up in front of a nightclub.
There stood a few guys around Ethan’s age-early twenties. They were dressed casually, laughing and chatting.
One of them spotted Ethan and shouted, “Whoa, Ethan! Is that a limited-edition bike? When’d you score this?”
“Did you hit the jackpot or something? How’d you afford this beauty?” another teased.
The guys swarmed the bike, their eyes wide with excitement. They’d only ever seen it online before; seeing it in person was such a rush.
“Ethan, can I take it for a spin? I’ve been dying to ride it,” one begged.
After Nina dismounted, Ethan parked the bike and playfully smacked the nearest guy’s head. “No way. My sister got me this.
Hands off
“Your sister?” The guys exchanged glances. “Didn’t you say you couldn’t stand her?”
“Knock it off,” Ethan shot them a glare. “How could I not like my sister?”
“But you said that just seeing her pissed you off, and you wished she’d disappear,” one guy said.

Nina crossed her arms, giving Ethan a half-smile. “I really get on your nerves, huh, Ethan?”
Ethan got flustered. “Don’t listen to them, Nina. I wasn’t talking about you. I meant Lily.”
Only then did the guys finally notice Nina, and their eyes went wide.
“Ethan, is this your girlfriend?” asked one guy. “Damn, she’s gorgeous, way hotter than the school beauty,

Ethan kicked the guy in the butt. “This is Nina, my real sister. The one I mentioned before was a fake. Quit talking nonsense, or you’ll make Nina think I don’t like her.”
The guys all chimed in, “Since when did your mom have another daughter?”
Ethan quickly explained Nina and Lily’s story, and his buddies finally got it.
“Hey, Nina, I’m Lco Chapman, Ethan’s roommate,” one said.
“Eric Smith, also Ethan’s roommate,” another added.
“Kevin Grant, same here,” the third guy grinned.
Nina smiled warmly, “I’m Nina Swanson.”
