“These guys are all straightforward and real. Ethan’s got good taste in friends, Nina thought.

After shooting the breeze for a while, they made their way into the club.

Ethan had booked a booth. But without using any family connections, he’d just grabbed a regular one.

The moment Nina walked in, she spotted a cake with “Happy Birthday, Ethan” written on it.

She stood there stunned for a moment, then turned to Ethan. “It’s your birthday today?”

Ethan nodded. “Yeah. I didn’t plan to celebrate, but these guys insisted.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Nina frowned. She hadn’t gotten him a gift.

“No big deal.” Ethan shrugged. “Honestly, I doubt anyone at home even knows my birthday. I’ve just gotten used to celebrating with these guys over the years. So I didn’t tell you.”

A sharp ache tugged at Nina’s heart. Even though Vivian never liked her, Nina got to celebrate her birthday every year.

When she was little, Sarah used to celebrate her birthday with her. Later, Scarlet, took over.

And then, Ryan, Elaine, and a bunch of other friends would always make a point to show up for her birthday. She never really cared about the day, but her friends sure did.

But it looked like Ethan never had a birthday celebration with the Swanson family.

Nina snapped out of her thoughts, pulled a card out of her bag, and handed it to Ethan. “Here.”.

“What’s this?” Ethan asked, looking at the card in confusion.

“Your birthday present. Buy whatever you want,” Nina said, pausing for a moment. “There’s 2 million on that card. If you need more, just tell me.”

Ethan shot up from his seat, his voice trembling with excitement. “T-Two million?”

‘Did I mishear that? Or did she misspeak?’ he thought, totally stunned.

“Not enough?” Nina pulled out another card. “Here. 3 million. That’s all I’ve got on me right now. Just wait a sec; I’ll have someone bring over more cards.”

With that, she shot a quick message to Elaine.

Ethan fell silent, thinking, ‘Nina, do you have any idea what you’re doing? Two million, then three million… Five million handed over, and you didn’t even bat an eye.

‘And now you’re gonna have someone send even more cards? Seriously, are you nuts, or am I imagining things here?’

Ethan’s buddies stared at Nina, their eyes wide and mouths hanging open. The room went dead silent.

After what felt like ages, Ethan broke the spell first. He quickly grabbed Nina’s phone. “Don’t send more cards. I can’t take

your money.”

Nina frowned, “Why not? Is my money dirty or something?”

Ethan’s mouth twitched. “It’s not that. This is Ryan’s money, right? If I take it all, what if he comes after you? I don’t want him thinking I’m mooching off you. I appreciate your kindness, but take the money back.”

“Yeah, I know. Ryan’s money is basically yours,” Ethan coaxed patiently. “Be good. Take it back. Don’t let Ryan think less of you.”

Nina was speechless. ‘Ugh, can’t he understand basic language?’

Ethan’s buddies glanced at Nina, then at Ethan.

Kevin couldn’t help leaning in and whispering to Ethan, “Dude, what does Nina do to have this kind of cash?”

“Well, it’s her boyfriend’s money,” Ethan replied.

Nina stared, totally speechless.

Kevin and the others nodded, getting the picture, and let it go.
