Heiress Returns Family Shocks (Nina Swanson) novel Chapter 508

Chapter 508

Wylder was totally baffled.

Wylder just shut down.

M M.

Wylder started freaking out.

Suddenly, Wylder realized he couldn’t even do basic math anymore.

This was one problem he just couldn’t solve.

He thought, ‘No salary at all, and she’d actually poured in over a billion of her own money, yet Nina was still willing to work for the organization. If that wasn’t pure, ironclad loyalty, then she must’ve had a loose screw.

But with Nina’s brains, there was no way she’d ever lose her mind like that.

So it had to be the first reason.

‘Someone this devoted, putting her heart and soul into serving her country without getting paid a single cent. How could anyone justify that?’

Wylder couldn’t help but feel seriously embarrassed.

He thought, ‘Who the hell dropped the ball here?

‘Seriously, how did they not pay her a dime all these years?’

Now he had zero say in this.

Nina grinned at Wylder. “Take your time sorting this mess out. When it’s finally fixed, maybe I’ll think about coming back. But approve my resignation now, or I’ll go to your boss and demand compensation for all my losses.”

Wylder fell silent.

He thought, ‘I couldn’t even come up with a single word. Not even a curse!

Wylder could only obediently sign off on Nina’s resignation.

Nina walked out, totally pleased with herself.

Wylder watched her walk away and let out a long sigh.

‘This is going to be a real headache to explain,’ he thought.

Ruby had sent word that they needed to replicate the serum, and right now, Nina was the only one who could pull it off.

But now that Nina had quit, he was totally screwed.

‘Guess I’d better report this to the higher-ups ASAP, Wylder thought.

Meanwhile, about twelve miles away from Nina, there was a small farmhouse.

An elderly man dressed in a long black robe stepped inside. He wore a hat that shaded his face, making it impossible to see his features.

The old man walked over to the well in the yard, scanned the ard to make sure no one suspicious was around, then lifted the well cover and climbed down.

On the surface, it was just a well, but down below, there was an underground room.

Inside, a woman in a red dress was chained to the wall. Every little movement made the chains sizzle and clank.

When she heard someone coming, she barely managed to lift het head, gave the old man a tired look, then dropped it again.

The old man set the takeout he’d just picked up in front of her. He said. “Go on, eat. It’s your favorite pasta,” he said.

She glanced at the food, quietly picked it up, and started eating without a word.

The old man pulled up a chair and sat down across from her, speaking in a calm voice. He said. “Nina’s quit. The serum’s been shut down.”

Hearing that, her fingers stilled for a moment, then she quietly resumed eating.

The old man glanced at her, saying, “She’s always listened to you! Why don’t you call her and ask her to keep working on it? We’re down to the final step.”

The woman lifted her eyes, calm and unwavering, and said, “Youknow I’m not going to make that call”

“Yeah, I know,” he said calmly. You always put loyalty first, and Nina’s learned that from you. I get in you don’t care about dying. But what about your child? What about your parents?”

He said it was no big deal, “You probably didn’t know, but Nina tracked down your real parents. Now they are living together with your daughter.”

He sighed softly and then said, “No wonder she’s your daughter, stunning and brilliant. Nina had been trained in combat what took most years, she mastered in a month. Talent like hers shouldn’t die wasted.

Before Ruby could respond, the man went on saying, “And your parents, your dad was gravely ill, almost died, but Nina saved him. Your mom thinks about you day and night. So many people love you, all waiting for you to come home.

“Ruby, you know I don’t want to be your enemy. I just want what I came for. My time’s almost up. If I don’t get that serum everyone you care about is going to get dragged into this with you.

Ruby smiled mockingly, replying, “When I joined, I accepted the worst, even losing my family. If they truly love me, they’ll understand. I don’t want them to die, but I won’t yield for their sake either. Give it up.”
