Nina looked at Lily with a blank expression, staring at a face that looked almost exactly like hers. Lily’s forehead was smeared with blood from the impact.

Her expensive clothes were filthy beyond recognition.

Lily was a complete mess right now.

Nina barely spared Lily a glance before turning to Hazel, who was standing off to the side with her head down, too scared to say a word. “You, come here.”

Hazel jerked her head up and then walked over to Nina, shaking and whispering, “What is it, Nina?”

No one could tell, but she was scared out of her wits.

She never flinched when Lily hit her.

She’d gotten used to Lily’s bullying over the years.

But Nina scared the hell out of Hazel.

But what she felt even more was admiration for Nina.

In her wildest dreams, she never would’ve thought Nina could be this badass.

Nina had single-handedly taken on a whole crowd and walked away without a scratch.

The real kicker? Nina actually knew Elaine, and her boyfriend was the kind who always had her back.

But both her friend and her boyfriend seemed like they weren’t exactly easy to get along with.

If anyone dared to mess with Nina, those two would totally make them pay.

Just thinking about it made Hazel even more scared.

She was honestly terrified that if she said the wrong thing, Nina’s friend and boyfriend wouldn’t hesitate to put her in her place.

Nina frowned. “What are you so scared of?”

Hazel’s heart tightened. “I-I…”

She was so nervous that the words just wouldn’t come out.

Nina pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling a bit exasperated.

‘Do I look like some kind of monster? Why is she so scared that he can’t even get a word out?’ Nina thought.

Hazel was clearly too freaked out to even talk, so Nina just brushed her off and went straight to Lily. “Apologize to her.”

Lily’s face darkened. “To Hazel? That loser who got thrown out by her own dad? Why the hell should I apologize to her?’ she sneered inwardly.

But she knew that if she didn’t apologize, Nina wouldn’t let her off the hook.

And neither would Ryan.

Lily only paused for a moment before putting on her most concing act, turning to Hazel and saying. ‘I’m sorry, Hazel ! shouldn’t have bullied you. I must’ve been out of my mind. I would never treat you like that again. Please, forgive me?

Her words sounded all sincere, but the look she gave Hazel carried a hint of warning.

Nina saw right through it and thought it was downright ridiculous.

Nina leaned back on the couch, her voice calm and deliberate. Are you threatening her?”

Lily instantly dropped her gaze. “No, I’m really sorry. Hazel, will you forgive me?”

She kept her eyes down, too scared to even glance at Hazel, worried Nina would catch her and stir up more trouble.

Hazel clutched the hem of her shirt, totally stunned. Not even in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine Lily would actually apologize to her.

She looked over at Nina, her voice trembling. “Nina…”

Nina gave her a sidelong glance. “Why are you looking at me? If you want to forgive her, go ahead. If not, just let her stay on her knees.”

Hazel’s face changed instantly. “I-I forgive her.”

Sure, Nina was backing her up now, but who knew what would happen later?

Lily was seriously vindictive.

Hazel knew she couldn’t always rely on Nina to bail her out, and since she and her mom were just crashing at the Swanson residence for now, it was smart to keep her head down.

“Okay,” Nina replied.

Since Hazel had made her choice, Nina respected it and didn’t say another word.

Ryan, standing off to the side, casually pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it, but then he seemed to remember something and shoved it back into his pocket.

He ordered the bodyguards in a cold voice, “Drag her out. We’ll settle things with the Swanson family later.”

Lily’s face went pale. “Nina, you promised that if I apologized, you’d let me go. You can’t break your promise.”

Nina lifted her eyelids, her voice cool and indifferent. “Did I say that?”

Lily froze and suddenly realized that Nina really hadn’t said that

It was Ryan who’d said that.

Lily whipped her head toward Ryan, desperation in her voice. “Mr. Foster…”
