THUGG

Miranda’s words made the whole room go silent.

Honestly, nobody knew what to say. The sudden turn of events was just too much for them.

Just a moment ago, Miranda was acting like a wild, spoiled rich girl, but now she looked like a poor thing. Her dad didn’t care about her, and her mom was nowhere to be found.

Nina stared at Miranda for a while. Her face stayed blank, but he grip on the glass grew a bit tighter.

Still staring at Miranda, she finally spoke after a long silence. “Di you just say your mom is a hostess at a nightclub?”

Her voice was hoarse, carrying a rough, hostile undertone.

Ryan shot her a sideways glance, his expression tightening a bit.

For a moment there, Nina totally lost it. But just as quickly, she pulled herself together like nothing had happened.

Ryan’s eyes landed on Miranda. Normally, he wouldn’t even bother looking at any woman who wasn’t Nina, but right now, he couldn’t seem to look away from Miranda.

After a few seconds, Ryan whipped his head around to stare at Nina.

‘No wonder,’ Ryan thought. ‘With Nina’s personality, anyone else who tried to mess with her would’ve ended up in the hospital by now.

‘She didn’t hold back with Lily or Alex, but all Miranda got was a footprint, nothing else.

‘It wasn’t that Nina was showing Miranda mercy. It’s just that Miranda looks very much like Scarlet.

‘But Scarlet is only thirty-eight. There’s no way she could have a daughter as old as Miranda.

‘Maybe they’re sisters? No, that can’t be it. Sisters wouldn’t have such a big age gap. Miranda’s only nineteen.

‘So what’s the real connection between her and Scarlet?’

Miranda lowered her head when Nina asked, but quickly looked up again, stubbornness written all over her face. “So what if my mom works at a nightclub? She doesn’t steal or cheat anyone. She makes her own way in the world. What’s wrong with that?

“Yeah, my mom’s a hostess, but she really loves me. If I could choose, I wouldn’t want to be some rich girl from the Hawthorne family. I’d rather be with my mom.”

Nina didn’t say a word. She knocked back her drink, set the glass down, her expression icy. “Get out.”

Miranda was stunned for a second. “Wait, you’re actually letting he go?”

Nina frowned. “What, you want me to buy you a drink or someting?”

Miranda startled, quickly got to her feet. “I-I’m leaving.”

Just as she was about to run out, she noticed the girls who’d com with her were still lying on the floor. She hesitated for a moment and then asked, “Can you let them go, too?”

These girls weren’t really her friends. They were Lily’s friends.

But they were just a bunch of young girls, and Miranda didn’t want them to get in trouble with Nina.

Nina didn’t even spare her a glance. “Go.”

Miranda’s face lit up with relief, and she quickly rounded up the girls and hurried them out.

When Miranda had finally vanished from the club, Nina set her lass down, keeping her eyes glued to the entrance.

After some time, Nina grabbed her phone and punched in a number.

But the phone just kept ringing. No one picked up.

Nina frowned and tried another number.

Someone finally picked up. “Nina? I heard you went back to your parents’ home. How’s it going? Are you doing okay? I was gonna call you a few days ago, but things have been crazy busy with all the customers lately.”

Nina was silent for a few seconds. “Where’s Scarlet?”

The person on the other end sounded surprised. “Scarlet? Didn’t she go to find you?”

Nina frowned. “She didn’t come to see me.”

“What? She didn’t go to you? But the day after you left, Scarlet sold everything in the yard. She said she was going to Riverdale with you.”

Nina’s face grew even darker. “Alright, I get it.”

Ryan had told her that Scarlet wasn’t at the house and that all he stuff was gone. Nina had assumed Scarlet had packed up and left because she didn’t want to stay in the house alone, so she probably headed to her place in Seabridge.

Scarlet had small houses in both Riverdale and Seabridge.

But now, Scarlet hadn’t gone to Seabridge either. ‘So where did she go?’ Nina thought.

And then there was Miranda. She was the spitting image of Scarlet. Seriously, they could’ve been twins.
