Nina pressed her lips together and said nothing. She didn’t need anyone to stand up for her. Lily was just a nobody, and Nina couldn’t care less about her.

She came back to the Swanson family for Scarlet, and also to get back at Vivian. As for Lily, she was like a dud firecracker. not even a threat. She couldn’t even touch a hair on Nina’s head

Ethan let out a cold laugh. “Grandma, bet you haven’t heard yet, huh? Our family’s little genius, Lily, rounded up a bunch of delinquent girls at the nightclub to bully Hazel. She was smoking, drinking, showing off like she owned the place.”

Ethan shot Lily a look of pure disdain. “And that’s not all. She even dragged Alex over, trying to give Nina a hard time.

“If Ryan hadn’t shown up right on time, Nina and I might not have made it out of that nightclub. Who knows, maybe the Swanson family would be planning a funeral tomorrow.”

Ethan had disliked Lily since they were little. Now, just seeing her got on his nerves even more. So, when Ryan said he was coming to the Swanson residence to get justice for Nina, Ethan totally backed him up.

“What?” Sarah’s face darkened. She spun around and slapped Lily hard across the face. “What nerve, you dare bully my granddaughter?”

Lily covered her cheek, tears welling up as she tried to explain. “Grandma, I swear, I didn’t. I’m just…”

‘Just what am I supposed to say? How do I even explain this?’ she thought, her heart pounding with panic.

Vivian’s heart ached for Lily as she saw her get slapped. “Why are you hitting Lily? Ryan already roughed her up, and now you’re going at her too? Classes at Betrico start in a month. How is she supposed to face anyone?”

Without missing a beat, Sarah landed another slap on Vivian’s cheek. “Shut your mouth. Say one more word and you’re out.”

If she weren’t so dead set against being the evil elder who wrecks her son’s marriage, Sarah would have made James divorce Vivian ages ago.

“You hit me?” Vivian gaped at Sarah, totally stunned. She just couldn’t believe what had happened. She’d been part of the Swanson family for years, and Sarah had never laid a finger on her.

And now, she’d just slapped her right in front of everyone. Jame could tell just how furious Sarah was. He rushed over, holding her hand to steady her. “Mom, please, calm down. Let me take care of this.”

“You’ll handle it?” Sarah snapped, yanking her hand away. “If you’d ever actually acted like a father, would Vivian have just dumped Nina like that?

“Tell me, when Nina said she spent all those years picking through trash just to get by, how did you feel? Did you honestly not care at all?”

“I, James stammered, at a complete loss for words. He did feel a bit bad when he heard it, but honestly, the guilt never really ran deep.

He felt a little guilty toward Nina, but that was it. He couldn’t bring himself to show her any real fatherly affection. In his eyes, any child Vivian gave birth to never deserved his love.

James looked up and locked eyes with Nina’s cold, distant stare.is heart suddenly skipped a beat. She looked at him like he was a total stranger.

‘Was I really the one at fault? It was Vivian who messed up, not the kids. Should I have actually been a real dad to them?’ he thought.

Seeing James like this, Sarah was so furious she could barely coin herself. She just couldn’t wrap her head around it. If he never liked Vivian, why did he marry her in the first place?

After getting married, they acted like strangers, but still had all ose kids together. If you’re going to have kids, then at least be a real parent and take responsibility for them.
