Nina stared at Jason, silent for a long moment.

The guys behind Jason quickly jumped in to explain, “Nina, we can vouch for him. Everything Jason said is true.
“It had nothing to do with Ryan. When Ryan found out what Jason did, he beat him up so bad that Jason couldn’t get out of bed for half a month.”
After they finished, Jason bowed. “Nina, please don’t break up with Ryan. He really loves you. You’re his whole world. If you leave him, he’ll totally fall apart.”
Ryan stepped up to Nina, his expression serious. “Nina, I’ve never let you down, and I never will. I had no idea about what happened that time.”
Nina fell silent.
She realized she’d blamed Ryan unfairly.
She’d been so mad back then that she hadn’t even noticed the voice sounded different.
Now she realized that voice really wasn’t Ryan’s at all.
She knew Jason could mimic voices, but she never thought he’d be that convincing.
Ryan took a deep breath, his voice pleading. “Nina, I’ll go talk to her and set things straight. Whatever happens to her is none of my business. Please, don’t leave me.”
“Ryan?” Jason tensed up the moment he heard that.
“Shut up,” Ryan snapped.
Jason pressed his lips together, then looked at Nina. “Nina, please don’t break up with Ryan. If he goes and tells Claire the truth, she really won’t be able to handle it. I love her. I really do. can’t just watch her die.”
Nina’s brows furrowed tight. “Are you really that much of a doormat? Chasing after a woman who’s ready to die for another guy, whose whole heart is set on someone else?
“Have you sunk that low? Seriously, are there no other women left in the world? Is she really the only one you think is good enough for you?”
Nina was genuinely pissed off.
Jason was actually a pretty decent guy. He was Ryan’s friend, and she’d hung out with them plenty over the years.
That was exactly why she was so mad. She knew Jason’s personality, and seeing him stoop so low for a woman who didn’t even care about him just pissed her off even more.
Jason hung his head and started sobbing out loud. “I’ve loved he since I was a kid. I just can’t give her up.”
Nina pinched the bridge of her nose. “Suit yourself.”
She didn’t bother saying anything else to Jason and just turned and walked inside.
Ryan held her hand, his face full of hurt. “Nina?”
“We’re done. I don’t do second chances,” she said.

“You broke up with me without asking. I never agreed, so it does’t count,” Ryan insisted.
Nina stayed silent.

Ryan looked a bit defeated. “Alright, I admit this was my fault. Bt can you at least give me a chance to chase after you again?”
Nina paused for a moment. “Suit yourself.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
Ryan smiled.
Nina finally relented.
She hadn’t agreed to get back together, but at least she was giving him a shot at winning her back.
‘Perfect, Ryan thought.
When Nina walked into the Swanson home, nobody had touched their food yet.
Everyone was just waiting for her.
This time, she really had made them wait.
Every single gaze landed on Nina, sizing her up without blinking
