Chapter 10
He slowly adjusted his cuffs, a cold smirk playing on his lips.
“If you’re that bored, maybe focus on your own fiancée. Every time you two fight, I’m the one cleaning up the mess. I’m busy. I’m not your personal mediator.”
Connor’s eyes went ice–cold. His tone sharpened.
“But you seem to enjoy it, don’t you? Last night’s drone show. That trending hashtag. Everyone’s saying you and Isabelle are the perfect match.
“Damian, know your place. You’re a married man. Stay away from my fiancée.
“If you can’t, I don’t mind teaching you some respect my way. This time, I won’t let you get away with it.”
Damian stepped forward, his presence menacing. Each word cut like a blade,
“If you loved Isabelle so much, why do you keep making her cry? You’ve known from day one she’s playful. Why can’t you be more patient with her?”
Connor let out a cold laugh, dripping with sarcasm.
“If you love playing hero so much, donate to charity of

something. You came here to see your wife, but all you do is talk about
my fiancée. You’re crossing a line.”
“Don’t change the subject. We’re talking about Isabelle.
“You’re impossible.”
Sophia stood in the shadows, staring blankly at the scene.
Two of New York’s most distinguished men were arguing fiercely over her sister.
One was her husband of three years. The other, her childhood friend of more than a decade.
Especially Connor. Her first love. He had looked after her for so
many years.
It was why she had fallen apart three years ago when she saw him kissing Isabelle.
After that, she had messily gotten involved with Damian and somehow ended up married.
She’d moved on. Let it go. But Connor still meant something she couldn’t replace.
She’d always thought that even if they couldn’t be lovers, they’d 2/6

at least be like siblings.
Damian? Fine. He’d always messed with her. Married her to keep Isabelle happy.
But Connor wasn’t like that. He’d always been thoughtful. Caring. Protective.

All those moments between them they were real. So why had he turned so cold?
Now, she felt that even if she collapsed right here, he wouldn’t spare her a second glance.
Her fingers curled. Tears slipped down her cheeks. The last trace of warmth in her heart vanished.
She clutched her thin, drafty hospital gown and disappeared back into the darkness.
By the time Liam finally separated the two and dragged Damian to Bed 13, it was empty.
“Connor, where is she? Where the hell did you hide my wife?”
Damian was furious, turning to shout at Connor, who had followed him in.
“She was just here. We have nurses making rounds.“….!

Connor’s face stiffened, and he was too stunned to argue with Damian.
He pressed the call button by the bed, and a nurse hurried in.
“Where is the patient from Bed 13?”
The nurse felt an invisible pressure from all the people in the
room.

She answered timidly, “After I removed her IV, the patient said she wanted to get some fresh air, so I didn’t stop her.”
“She just woke up and her hands are injured. How could you let her go out alone?”
Connor’s heart sank, and his voice grew frantic.
“Connor, if anything happens to Sophia, your hospital can expect to hear from my lawyers.”
Damian issued the cold warning before he and Liam quickly left the hospital.
Just then, another young nurse ran in, panting.
“Dr. Wilson, security checked the footage. The patient in bed 13 took a cab and left.”
She handed him her phone with the surveillance pulled up. 4/6
