Her Divorce, His Downfall (Sophia and Damian) novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

The intercom buzzed. Sharon’s anxious voice came through.

Ms. Anderson, Aurora Tech just turned down our offer.

Sophia frowned, surprised. Why Aren’t they looking for investors? I’m very optimistic about their project.

Sharon hesitated for a moment. Could an industry giant have

made a move?

An industry giant?

Damian’s Polaris Drones flashed through Sophia’s mind.

Had Vincent also sent a proposal to Veridian Group?

But why would Veridian Group bother with a startup like Aurora Tech?

Her head throbbed. Sophia rubbed her temples.

H

Set up a meeting with Aurora Tech’s founder. I want to talk to him myself.

After wrapping up work, she checked her watch. Past 7 PM already.

Damian should’ve received the divorce papers by now

Weird. Given his personality, she’d expected an angry call by

now.

Whatever. Whether he agreed or not, she was done.

She

always been proud and carried herself with an aloof grace.

There was no way she’d stay with a man whose heart belonged to someone else.

Besides, last night’s drone show was all over the internet now. Pure, crushing humiliation.

It’s almost over. Just hold on a little longer.

Just then, her phone rang.

Sophia answered. Eleanor’s warm voice came through.

Sophia, you haven’t visited in so long. I miss you. I made your favorite chicken soup tonight. Come home.

Grandma, I’m still busy with work,Sophia replied without a second thought. As soon as I’m done, I promise I’ll come see you.

Sophia, I don’t know how much time I have left,Eleanor’s voice cracked, followed by a wet cough. Every visit could be the last. And you’re the one I worry about most, sweetheart. Cough

Grandma, don’t get upsetI’m coming right now.Afraid Eleanor would make herself sick, Sophia immediately caved. I’ll be there soon.

She ducked into the lounge, removed her makeup, and applied pink lipstick to look less haggard.

She changed into a white silk blouse paired with a chic, ruffled green skirt.

The hem of her skirt fluttered as she walked, revealing a glimpse of her fair, slender calves and adding to her unapproachable, refined aura.

Half an hour later, Sophia pulled into the estate.

The dark wood gates swung open Courtyard lights blinked to life.

They lit up the cobblestone path and cast long shadows through the pines,

As she stepped out of her car, she saw Damian’s RollsRoyce already parked beside her.

He was leaning against the car, his long legs crossed, his gaze fixed on her.

Sophia ignored him completely and walked straight toward the entrance.

Damian grabbed her arm, turning her to face him. He looked down at her, his voice low and commanding.

You know what to say in there and what not to say, right? Grandma’s health can’t take any shocks.

Sophia yanked her arm free.

I’ll wait to tell Grandma about the divorce, she said coldly. But you’re signing those papers.

We’ll talk about it later.

Before she could react, he grabbed her hand again, pulling her forward.

We’re still legally married for now. It only makes sense that we go in together.

Sophia struggled, but couldn’t break free. A sharp, tearing pain shot through the wound on her palm.

She couldn’t help but hiss in pain

What’s wrong?Damian stopped and turned to look at her.

Her face was etched with pain, but she shook her head 4/5

His eyes dropped to her handthe gauze wrapped around her palm.

Connor’s sharp words from this morning echoed in his mind.

you actually cared, she wouldn’t have drunk herself into alcohol poisoning. And she sure as hell wouldn’t have her hand punctured by glass from you shoving her.
