Her Divorce, His Downfall (Sophia and Damian) novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Connor’s cold gaze swept over them. His lips curved into a smirk.

“Since none of you will talk, I’ll do it.”

He took a deep breath and laid out what happened.

Catherine’s face flushed crimson with rage. She whirled on Damian, voice shaking with fury.

“You absolute bastard! Have you lost your mind?

“Sophia is your wife-and you stood there and watched her get humiliated? Where the hell is your conscience? How the hell did the Hall family raise a piece of shit like you who can’t tell right from wrong!”

Then she rounded on Michael next, voice even more vicious.

“And you, Michael!

“Sophia’s your real daughter. You pushed her until she was coughing up blood and collapsing-all firm that:49 bastard child You don’t deserve to be a father”

“I don’t care how you seduced Michael back in the day. But if you ever try to sabotage Sophia again, I will destroy

you.

“Sophia is my daughter-in-law. I won’t let you people bully her anymore. And let me be crystal clear-if anything happens to Sophia, your precious daughter won’t walk away either.”

Rhea’s face went ashen. Her lips trembled. “You’ve got it wrong. We care about Sophia too—”

“Don’t play games with me. Who the hell are you? I only recognize Elaine-the daughter of the Moore family, one of Washington’s founding families. You?

“You didn’t actually think the Hall family would let just any trash climb into our ranks, did you?”

Catherine’s lips twitched. Then she laughed outright.

“I don’t give a damn why you’re using your daughter to seduce my son.”

“But let me make this crystal clear-she’s never marry into the Hall family. Drop it. Before you lose everything

That bitch Catherine, acting all high and mighty just because she’s got the Hall family backing her up.

So what if Elaine came from money? She was dead now.

So what if Rhea came from nothing? She was Mrs.

Anderson.

A few well-placed moves and Michael was wrapped around her and Isabelle’s fingers.

She knew the society ladies talked. Called her shameless.

A schemer.

She didn’t care. As long as she kept her throne as Mrs. Anderson, they all had to smile and call her Mrs. Rhea

Anderson to her face.

What could they do about it? Nothing.

Her nails dug into her palms, nearly drawing blood. But her face stayed composed.

Her voice cracked-just a little. Her eyes reddened on cue.

“Mrs. Catherine Hall, you’re wrong about me. I never told 377

Michael watched his woman get reduced to tears by Catherine’s words. His pride couldn’t take it.

“Mrs. Catherine Hall, watch your tone. Damian’s Sophia’s husband. We’re family. What’s wrong with him looking out for Isabelle?”

Catherine watched Rhea’s tears appear on command-the flawless performance, the way she effortlessly redirected blame onto Damian.

Impressive. A master manipulator. Rhea really knows how to play men like a fiddle.

Catherine opened her mouth to fire back, but Damian

beat her to it.

“Mom, leave Aunt Rhea alone. She’s right. I chose to look after Isabelle. This isn’t on her.”

Her own son. Defending outsiders. Humiliating her in front of everyone.

Catherine rolled her eyes so hard they nearly stuck. But Sophia was still unconscious. She didn’t have the energy for this.

Finally, she pinched Damian’s arm hard, exasperated. “How did I raise a son who fights me at every turn?”

“Seriously!” Bella rushed over to support Catherine, tears streaming down her face. “Damian, you’re being so unfair. How can you do this to Sophia? If something happens to her, what-you gonna marry Isabelle instead?”

“Don’t say that!”

Both Damian and Connor spoke at once. They locked eyes for a moment, then turned away coldly.

Just then, the emergency room doors opened.

Everyone rushed forward. The doctor stepped out.

He pulled off his mask, nodded to Connor, and spoke slowly.

“The patient suffered acute stress-induced ulcer bleeding from emotional distress. Given her already weakened state, that’s why she vomited blood and lost consciousness. We’ve stopped the bleeding. Her vitals

over them.

The doctor gave a few more instructions, then left with

Connor.

Sophia was wheeled back to the VIP room. She lay there with her eyes closed, face still deathly pale.

Damian followed her in. As he approached the bed—

Sophia’s eyes suddenly opened. Her brow furrowed, like even seeing him caused her pain.

His hand clenched, released, clenched again. Finally, his feet froze in place.

Michael and Rhea tried to enter, but Sophia’s weak voice

cut them off.
