After settling everything, Catherine stayed with Sophia a while longer, then left Bella to keep watch.

When she stepped out and saw her useless son still standing there, she sighed in frustration and walked

away.

Damian stayed in the hallway all night. His back wound got so bad that Liam had to call a nurse over to change the dressing.

Two or three purple-red welts crisscrossed his back, raised and raw-almost down to the muscle. Even Liam

felt sick looking at it.

The nurse gently cleaned the wound and started applying

ointment.

Damian’s body jerked involuntarily. His breathing turned ragged.

“Hold on a sec.” Liam saw the agony on his boss’s face and stopped her.

Bella pushed Sophia’s wheelchair through the garden downstairs, letting her soak up some sun.
