Chapter 36
Sophia ignored the searing pain in her leg and met his gaze coldly.
“I don’t tolerate betrayal, Mr. Hall. I thought you knew that about me by now.”
Damian froze, about to respond-
Michael lost it. He hurled his glass straight at Sophia.
CRASH.
It shattered against her. Shards sliced across her pale cheek, blood welling up instantly.
Michael trembled with rage, jabbing a finger at her face.
“You ungrateful wretch! You knew your sister was fragile, and you beat her like this? Where are your manners?!
“All those books you read-and it all went in one ear and
* out the other?!”
He paused, gasping for air, then continued.

slide once.”
Dead silence. The maids didn’t dare breathe.
Damian stood off to the side, eyes locked on the blood trickling down Sophia’s face. Something cold flickered in his gaze.
Sophia ignored him. She wiped the blood from her jaw with the back of her hand, voice like steel.
“I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize? She insulted my mother first]—every word was vile. I taught her a lesson. She deserved it.”
“Sophia, how can you lie like this?!” Isabelle emerged from behind Michael, clutching her swollen face, tears
streaming.
“Last night I saw you and Connor by the window, holding each other. I was just trying to remind you not to forget who you are.
. “You’re Mrs. Hall. You need to keep your distance from
my fiancé. But Sophia flew into a rage and hit me…”

At the mention of Connor, Damian’s eyes went cold.
His knuckles whitened. His fists clenched at his sides.
Last night’s words-“I still love him”-stabbed through him like a blade.
Rage and pain twisted into something hard and frozen, lodged in his chest, suffocating him.
His gaze locked on Sophia-dark, lethal. Every trace of warmth gone.
“You hear that? You hear that?!”
Michael’s fury boiled over at Isabelle’s sobbing. He turned on Sophia, voice thundering.
“Damian’s still living under this roof and you’re sneaking around with Connor?! Shameless! Trying to steal your sister’s fiancé!
“You’re dragging the Anderson name-the Hall name .-through the mud. If I don’t teach you a lesson today,
you’ll think you’re untouchable!”

“Today, I’ll remind you what rules are. What virtue means.”
Sophia’s gaze swept over Michael, then Isabelle. Finally, it landed on Damian’s icy eyes.
She thought she’d hardened herself over the years. Built walls nothing could break.
But when she saw the cold indifference in Damian’s eyes, all that buried hurt came flooding back.
She opened her mouth. Tried to defend herself one more time.
Then Isabelle cried out in pain. Michael and Damian’s attention snapped to her instantly. Both rushed over, fussing.
No one cared about the truth. They only cared about Isabelle.
All the fight drained out of her. She didn’t even have the . energy left to defend herself.
Amocking smile curved her lips as she said coldly. “Isabelle, with acting skills like that, it’s a real shame

your sister bloody and you still think you’re right?”
Her words pushed him over the edge. He waved his hand sharply.
“Guards! Hold her down!”
Two burly bodyguards stormed in, grabbing Sophia’s shoulders and arms in iron grips, forcing her to the ground.
“Let go of me!” Sophia thrashed wildly, but the two trained bodyguards were too strong.
She gritted through the pain, glaring at Michael. “Sometimes I wish I wasn’t your daughter.”
Michael’s heart lurched. He met her gaze.
Her eyes burned with hatred-cold as frost, sharp as a blade stabbing straight into his chest.
Anger flared in him. Something vicious flickered across
