Chapter 66
Her blood ran cold as she plummeted downward!
Wind whipped across her face, the roar of rushing air mixing with her own screams.
Pure terror flooded through her. Her heart pounded so hard she thought it would burst out of her chest.
Just when she was certain she’d hit the ground, the fall stopped.
She hung suspended in midair, swaying helplessly.
Moments later, she was yanked back up to the tenth floor.
Coughing, Sophia collapsed onto the cold concrete like a fish gasping for air, her chest heaving with desperate breaths.
Every inhale was agony. Her wrists were shredded and bleeding from the ropes, each pulse of pain like fire shooting through her
arms.
Damian’s merciless voice cut through the air above her.
“Where is Isabelle?”
Sophia didn’t have the strength to lift her head. Her bloodshot ¿ye’s locked onto his.

She opened her mouth to speak, but her throat seized up, unable to form a single coherent sound.
“Drop her.” Another merciless command.
“No!”
The weightless terror consumed her again as fear swallowed her whole.
Up. A question. No answer. Down.
Up again. Another question. Still no answer. Down again.
A vicious cycle, torturing her already broken body over and
over.
Her consciousness began to fade, her heart feeling like it was being torn apart, leaving only bone-deep, icy pain.
Just when Sophia was certain this drop would be her last, Damian’s phone rang.
He frowned, glanced at the caller ID, and swiped to answer.
Liam’s urgent voice burst through the speaker, relief and panic mixing together:

“Sir, Isabelle was kidnapped while taking a walk outside the hospital. It was that real estate developer we had business dealings with-he thought she was your girlfriend.”
A location pin for an abandoned factory appeared on his phone.
Damian’s mind raced back to a recent business deal. A bankrupt property developer had approached his company, wanting to use undeveloped land as collateral for a huge loan. The guy had even thrown an expensive dinner to try to win Damian over.
He could have approved it, but he didn’t trust the real estate market right now. He’d turned him down flat at dinner.
Anyone who’d made it big in real estate had dangerous
connections.
The thought of those people going after Isabelle made his stomach drop.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward and swept Sophia into his arms with almost brutal efficiency, rushing toward the elevator and down to the street.
The car door slammed shut. The driver received his orders and gunned the engine, racing toward the outskirts of the city.
The atmosphere in the car was suffocating.

Sophia lay rigid in his arms, her body stiff with realization.
From his barked commands to the direction they were speeding, everything became crystal clear.
Damian wasn’t protecting her or rushing her to a hospital. He was taking her to trade one life for another.
Her heart plummeted into an icy abyss, her blood turning to ice.
in her veins.
She lifted her trembling, nearly broken hand and tapped weakly on the driver’s seat.
“Help me,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “Please, I’ll pay you well.”
The driver’s scalp prickled with fear. The murderous aura radiating from the second young master of the Hall family when he’d gotten in the car had nearly suffocated him. He knew exactly what crossing Damian meant-he didn’t dare respond.
Damian pulled her hand back, gripping it tightly in his palm and burying his face in her neck.
“Sophia, I’m sorry. I couldn’t find Isabelle, and I panicked. After we get her back safe, we’ll fix things between us. I promise.”
Nagsea rolled through Sophia’s stomach. She nearly threw up:17

what little she had left from the night before.
But after everything she’d endured, she didn’t even have the strength to push him away. She could only let the sickening feeling wash over her.
The car finally stopped in front of an abandoned factory. Everyone got out.
Rusted gates hung half-open, weak light filtering from inside.
