Her Divorce, His Downfall (Sophia and Damian) novel Chapter 70

Chapter 70

“You’re talking nonsense!” Damian’s chest heaved violently, his vision blurring as darkness crept at the edges. He forced himself to stay upright, his voice carrying a manic obsession:

“Sophia won’t die! She can’t be dead!

“She must be hiding somewhere, refusing to see me—just like last time. Go find her! Keep looking, and don’t you dare come back until you find her!”

Damian had always been composed and controlled, rarely showing emotion in front of others.

But this time, not only was he exposed-he was completely

shattered.

In that moment, Liam finally understood just how much Sophia

meant to Damian.

He took his orders and left, calling for housekeeping to clean the hospital room.

After the broken glass was quickly swept away, Isabelle remained frozen in place, her face growing even paler.

Clearly, she too had been frightened by Damian’s extreme Hadness.

Sophia was dead, yet he refused to believe it.

And he was stubbornly mobilizing every resource to search for her. What kind of deep feelings would drive someone to such

obsession?

How naive she’d been to think that with Sophia dead, she could break off her engagement to Connor and throw herself into Damian’s arms instead.

The position of Mrs. Hall was vacant now.

But looking at this, she realized her thinking had been far too simple.

Damian’s feelings for Sophia ran so deep that even he might not have fully realized it.

Seeing the girl trembling with fear before him, Damian showed rare patience in comforting her, deliberately softening his voice:

“Don’t be afraid. Come here. I won’t hurt you.”

Isabelle moved her feet with difficulty, slowly approaching Damian.

She lifted her eyes, choking back tears:

“Damian, are you really still going to look for my sister? Isn’t she already-”

“She won’t die.” Damian cut her off directly, his eyes flashing with stubborn determination. “She still has so many things left unfinished. How could she just die so easily?”

Isabelle’s entire body went rigid, momentarily stunned.

Before she could recover from her shock-

BANG! The hospital room door was violently kicked open, slamming hard against the wall.

Connor stormed in, radiating murderous fury.

His usually gentle, refined face was now ice-cold, his eyes bloodshot as they fixed directly on Damian.

Ignoring Damian’s physical and emotional state, he strode forward and threw his fist hard into Damian’s face.

A solid, dull thud echoed through the room.

“Damian, Sophia died because of you. Are you satisfied now?”

Connor’s eyes were red with grief, his extreme anguish making his voice unsteady as he accused him word by word:

“If you couldn’t protect her, why did you marry her in the first place? Why?”

Damian’s head snapped to the side from the blow, blood

trickling from the corner of his mouth as he staggered backward.

He didn’t stop until his back hit the headboard, finally steadying himself from falling.

He knew Connor would come for him because of Sophia.

He also knew this was his fault, so he didn’t dodge-he took the punch head-on.

Isabelle screamed in fright, running over to pull Connor away. “Connor, what are you doing? Have you lost your mind? Stop

it!”

Damian slowly straightened up, calmly wiping the blood from his mouth, his movements composed.

He looked at Connor, his voice hoarse but carrying stubborn

conviction:

“She’s not dead. I will find her.”

“Find her? How?”

Connor’s fists clenched, his voice breaking with grief and rage:18

“I saw the news. I talked to the fire department. With those temperatures and all those fireworks-no one could have survived.

“You’re a monster, Damian! You hurt her over and over, let her down again and again. If you were just going to treat her like shit, why did you fight so hard to take her from me?”

By the end, Connor collapsed to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

How could he have been so foolish to think this terrible man would make Sophia happy?

Looking back now, he’d been completely wrong.

His stepping aside had only emboldened Damian to take more and more.

And it had ultimately led to Sophia’s tragic death.

He was filled with such regret, such hatred.

Connor’s bodyguards had called him the moment they woke up, telling him someone had kidnapped Sophia.

His heart stopped. He immediately got his team moving to track her down.

He’d just gotten a lead on her location and was driving toward the outskirts when a massive explosion echoed in the distance. Flames lit up the night sky.

An ominous premonition gripped Connor’s heart as they raced toward the scene, running red lights.

All they found was rubble and busy fire trucks.
