Winona kept humming as she grabbed a perfectly golden slice of toast, slathered it in Martha's homemade sweet blueberry jam, and took a bite. "So good! Martha, this jam is amazing."
Martha walked over with a cup of hot milk, setting it down next to her with a beaming smile. "If you like it, I'll be sure to make more."
"Yes, please!" Winona replied enthusiastically.
She tested the temperature of the milk, found it perfectly warm, and took a sip.
Once she was settled, as if finally noticing Seth's intense stare, she slowly turned her head and engaged him in a staring contest. "What?"
He bit off half the sausage and dropped the rest onto his plate. "Did you... take the wrong meds today?"
"Nope." She took another bite of toast, grinning. "You're the one on the wrong meds."
That made it even weirder.
He'd basically insulted her, yet she wasn't mad. She was actually smiling.
He raised a hand, rubbing his brow bone with a knuckle. "Then why are you so happy today? Did your little heartbreak finally make you snap?"
"Ha." Winona let out a dismissive scoff. "What heartbreak? I've simply been cured of my bad taste."
Seth stayed silent for a few seconds. "Now I actually believe you're over him."
She took another sip of milk. "It's not just that I'm over him. I've evolved to the point where seeing him miserable makes my day."
"Oh. So you're in a good mood because he's about to be miserable?"
"Pretty much." Winona finished her toast with a smile, downed her milk, and hurried Seth to leave.

Ever since Rhea Sawyer woke up this morning, her right eyelid had been twitching.
The room felt a bit stuffy, so she pulled back the curtains and pushed the window open. The sounds of street vendors mixed with the fresh morning air poured in.
