The guys were even worse-most of them were head over heels for her.

Everyone used to say Gilbert was the good guy in their crew-the only one who didn’t play around. No matter who sent women his way, he’d turn them down.
That was, until Wendy came along.
But barely anyone ever caught them being all cozy. At least in public, they kept it chill. All the gossip said Gilbert spoiled her rotten.
Except lately, when he moved into Splendor Villa just to tick Sherry off. It caused a huge stir, but anyone with half a brain could tell that Wendy really didn’t have a spot in Gilbert’s heart.
But now that Julia had spoken, Gilbert still held her tight. “I can’t believe it’s real. You’re actually here, right in front of me.”
He was scared that if he let go, Julia would blow away like a feather.
He looked at her like she was the most precious thing in the world-and Wendy’s face went deathly pale.
Julia smiled softly-a smile that could melt anyone’s heart. “Don’t worry. This time, I ain’t leaving.”
“For real?” Gilbert’s eyes lit up with pure joy.
Sherry had only seen that look once when the Bode family made it big,
It was that same amazing, unfiltered joy she hadn’t seen in his eyes in five whole years.
Wendy was right. At least in this mess of a relationship, Sherry had lost-hands down.
Sherry felt her calf going numb.
“For real. You know I never lie to you.” Julia gave Wendy a sad glance. “Gilbert, Wendy’s been through so much ’cause of me. I know you’re always fair, but she’s still young. She messed up-she deserves a shot to make it right. It ain’t that big of a deal, I swear. Can I beg you to save her?”
Then she leaned in and whispered a couple things in Gilbert’s car.
Gilbert glanced over at Wendy and Sherry.
“Let Wendy go.”
Sherry knew it’d go this
way.
Gilbert looked at her and mouthed, “Trust me.”
Sherry laughed bitterly. Trust him?
What happened the last time I trusted him?

She almost had a breakdown. Memories of her worst days-those feelings of being worthless and humiliated-still ate at her.
The kidnappers kept their word. Even though Wendy, was the one they should’ve gotten revenge on, they listened. They let Wendy go and started untying Sherry’s rope.
Sherry heard the wind howling in her ears. Everyone else seemed to hear a helicopter rumbling too.
But all eyes were on Sherry. If she fell now, she’d be torn to bits-no body left to bury.
Gilbert’s heart was in his throat, but Julia had said someone would be down there to catch her.
Then, with the helicopter landing and its lights blazing, a guy showed up, holding Sherry in his arms.
He was oozing a powerful vibe. His face was handsome but stone-cold-no expression at all. Nobody dared get close to him.
His face was striking-almost perfect. His cold, empty eyes showed nothing. When you locked eyes with him, you froze-like you couldn’t help but bow down to him.
This shock was way stronger than Julia’s. She got overshadowed right away. Even the guys couldn’t stop staring at him.
Even other guys thought he was top-tier.
It was a guy thing-they got that silent competition.
Gilbert’s eyes were practically blazing.
“Who the hell do you think you are, butting in? I had a plan to save her!”
“Your plan? That dinky little fishing boat down there? Falling from this height-she’d either be a vegetable or break both legs.”
