Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193 Julia Wins Over the Crowd

“Sherry’s my wife. It’s only right she goes along with me when I wanna repay someone. Husbands and wives stick together-through thick and thin. What’s she gotta complain about?”

Gilbert hated when people told him he was wrong about something he knew for a fact was right.

If he couldn’t even tell right from wrong, how’d he get to where he was today? How could he run a big company if he couldn’t handle something this tiny?

Lucas could do whatever he pleased. That was their family’s way.

But nobody else got to stick their nose in their family’s business.

The Harrison family might not even get this right as he did. Let’s be real—older families usually got more heartless the longer they stuck around.

In the Bode family, rules kept things in check.

Sherry had been with him for years, and she still hadn’t learned basic common sense.

Julia looked at Gilbert, sorry in her eyes. “I never thought Mr. Harrison would blow up like this over something so small.”

Gilbert patted Julia’s shoulder softly. “Everyone says the Harrison family’s low-key and stays out of personal stuff. But they won’t even leave a weak girl like you alone. Rumors are total garbage, man.”

Julia shook her head. “For a family like the Harrisons, rumors are usually true. I’m sure everyone here knows they never mess with stuff like this-especially picking on a woman who just lost her husband.

“Widows can’t catch a break-drama’s always following them.

“A lot of people got me wrong, and I can’t fix that. Especially Ms. Campbell-she even ran away from home just to hang around the Harrison family.

“This gala was supposed to be a business collaboration between the Bode family, our Splendor Group, and the Harrison family. I only tried to get close to Mr. Harrison for you.

“After all, I’ve caused you so much trouble. Ms. Campbell is even trying to split us up like this. But Gilbert, I’ll fix this-I promise.

“No matter what someone told Mr. Harrison to make him hate me this bad, I’m not trashing Ms. Campbell. I ain’t scared of being laughed at, and I ain’t scared of anyone checking into me. Mr. Harrison is the only person in the world who’s ever been this mean to me.”

Gilbert felt for her right away. “You don’t gotta make excuses for Sherry. She’s been looking for trouble lately, turning both the Bode family and her own family into a mess. This time, she’s definitely mad at you!

“She doesn’t know what’s important. She’s just being ridiculous. That’s how girls with no life experience act-always playing the victim.”

years.

So ever since Sherry started all this crap-begging for a fancy dress, trying to build family-Gilbert knew she’d fail. Even if she didn’t, it’d just be a waste of cash.

They had money now, but it didn’t grow on trees.

If Sherry was half as sensible and capable as Julia, would he even be this stressed?

Every time they met, she gave him a headache. Sooner or later, Sherry would get scammed out of everything and come crawling back to him, begging.

“It’s fine. Girls are just like that-they love acting up. Don’t be mad at her. Otherwise, I’ll feel like I’m the one messing things up between you two. Let’s step back a little, or I’ll be the bad guy forever. I just wanted to bring a good person onto our team today, but… oh well.”

In a second, she’d become a woman who strove for her career, yet was wrongfully painted as someone with an ulterior motive.

Some of the other women started to soften.

She wasn’t trying to hit on Lucas. After all, there was a huge age gap between them-bigger than between Sherry and him, even.

What was wrong with her trying to do what’s best for her company?

Women already had it harder than men in business. Being misunderstood was par for the course. So a bunch of them walked over to her.
