Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 198

Chapter 198 The Guerrilla Department

“The three of us are in the Guerrilla Department.”

The three huddled up together, like the Three Musketeers.

Sherry had never heard of that in her life.

“Huh? What’s that?”

“We run around like chickens with our heads cut off, doing every random thing-especially the stuff nobody else can fix.”

“You know how chaotic our company’s business is. Back in the day, Mr. Harrison and Mrs. Harrison would go someplace and just start a new company out of nowhere. Yeah, the companies got up and running, but they needed people-people they could trust—to run them. That’s what we do.”

“Course, when we got nothing else going on, we handle some stuff here too. But now that you’re here? We finally don’t have to trail the boss around everywhere!”

After a few drinks, the three of them were practically sobbing and hugging each other like babies.

“For real, the three of us are actually really good at our jobs.”

And they were. From the way they talked, they only got those gigs because they were 100% trusted. After all, what they did made or broke the new companies’ future.

And their bond with Lucas seemed way closer than regular coworkers.

But why are they crying?

“But we’re just cursed with bad luck. Every time we go on a mission with the boss, something goes sideways. You heard the stuff we told you earlier? Those were just the first times. Later, every mission was even more insane than the last.

“At first, we thought it was our fault. But all three of us had the same terrible luck—so it couldn’t be just us. So we snuck an assistant for the boss. Told him we were all sick and asked her to cover! But she got so unlucky she quit on the spot.

“So when all that crap happened to you after you started, we felt terrible. On one hand, we prayed you’d never quit. On the other, we were terrified something bad would happen to you. We were so torn, dude.”

Now Sherry got why these guys had been sticking up for her nonstop.

They trusted her so much.

She was a new hire-them being skeptical would’ve made total sense. But instead, all three of them had her back, saying Wendy and Julia were the ones with issues.

Sherry had to be innocent-no doubt about it.

And they looked at her with these super guilty eyes.

Turns out, they thought all the bad stuff that happened to her was because being Lucas’s assistant was a cursed job.

“For real? It’s that bad?”

The three grabbed Sherry’s hands, sobbing their hearts out. “For real? It’s way worse than you think! Even Mr. Harrison probably has no clue why this job’s so impossible to fill.

“Word’s gotten around in the assistant and secretary crowds. And the boss wants someone who knows their stuff? He can’t find anyone. Even if he pays a fortune, people care more about staying aliv

as froze mid-motion, his hand holding a drink. Duh. Even if there is a curse, most people won’t anywhere near it.

But Max’s next words sobered everyone up right away. “The real problem’s the boss himself! C’mon, don’t you guys know? Back in school, almost nobody dared to go near him. His face was basically a ‘stay away’ sign.

“And it’s not just his face. He has this vibe-like if you tick him off, you’re dead meat. His stare’s scarier than those tough CEOs in movies. How do I say this…”

Max was stuck-couldn’t find the right words.

‘s like he built his empire with his own two hands, fighting every step of the way. If you make

mad, you’re done for-no coming back. His stare scares people half to death! And he appears a lot sometimes… maybe he’s…”

He made a throat-slitting gesture, his face going serious.

It was obvious-he was talking about the mob.

Turns out, he was the most wasted one of the three.
