Chapter 276 The Encounter
Sherry had never thought of it that way. She’d bought into the whole “true love conquers all” fantasy.
Turns out he was just an emperor in paper robes-strutting around, judging everyone, convinced he was. untouchable-all while demanding a queen worthy of his nonexistent throne.
“Also, I did investigate Julia. I mentioned that before.
“The point is-don’t meet her privately. If you go anywhere remote, have Max assign you protection.”
His face carried a weight she’d never seen on him.
Truth is, Sherry didn’t have to dig this up. Lucas definitely had his own plan.
She hadn’t been at the company long anyway. It was a miracle she had access to this much. Any other firm would’ve taken years, or even decades, to learn half of what she knew now.
Earlier, she’d just reacted emotionally. She didn’t want anyone she cared about to be tainted by Julia.
She’d finally built something here-friends, people who mattered. She guarded that fiercely.
But she’d also prepared herself.
Even if Julia ended up with Lucas someday, every dollar Sherry earned, every skill she learned-that was her spine.
“So, my princess, please get in.”
Lucas bent to help her into the car, and right then his phone rang.
He pinched the bridge of his nose-a rare tell. “Don’t tell me you two started another company you need me to…”
You could tell it was his parents. The helplessness was visible from space.
Which meant he had a pile of fires to put out again.
“Sherry, I might need to head to the neighboring city-”
Sherry was already out of the car. “Go. Before they lose more money.”
The investments were solid. The execution? A disaster.
Three-month window. If Lucas didn’t step in within that timeframe, the company would collapse.
Worse-it could drag down their main holdings. Someone had to take over, fast.
“I’ll have the company driver come get you. I need to get over there now.”
Lucas’ jaw tightened. He was already mentally drafting plans to ship his parents to some remote island ang let them go wild there.
At least they couldn’t cause trouble from a beach.
