Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 297

Before she could finish, he cut her off. "Online? You can't trust any of that. It's all manipulation. I trust my own eyes."

Great. Another Gilbert.

Sherry had thought he might say something useful. She'd wondered, sometimes, in her lowest moments—what had happened to that little boy she'd saved? Was he okay?

Turns out, sitting here with him was a complete waste of time.

"If you're mentally ill, have your episode somewhere else. Stay out of my business. Gilbert and I are getting a divorce. Stop looking at me like I'm some slut. Who the hell do you think you are?"

Kurt didn't flinch at "divorce." "Women today have no shame. You can't compare to the old days.

"Divorce is something to be proud of? Only shameless women get divorced. Decent women know what loyalty means."

So she hadn't just saved an idiot. She'd saved a time traveler from a century ago.

"When men are loyal, women will be loyal. By your logic, Gilbert and I are both married. So how did Julia have the nerve to say I stole her man? She was married first. She had a husband. Does that mean Gilbert couldn't get married?

"I knew Lucas first. How am I stealing him? She's the one trying to steal from me."

Kurt didn't even blink, like he'd expected this.

"It's complicated.

"Julia married to survive, for Gilbert's sake. It's not the same as what you're talking about. You can't compare. Julia didn't do anything wrong."

Hilarious.

"So marriage has tiers now?

"She's noble, so it's fine?

"She's not interfering in someone else's marriage? The reason I'm divorcing Gilbert is her. Divorce is so terrible, you say. Well, here's the cause. Why aren't you yelling at her?"

Kurt's brow furrowed deep. "I'm not debating twisted logic with you.

"Look. I'm only talking to you because you saved me once. I'm trying to stop you from ruining Julia's plans."

Sherry's stomach dropped. "What do you mean?"

Then she realized this hotel wasn't great with soundproofing.

"So why are you so cold to me now? Because I had to marry him? I didn't have a choice!

"But I'm back now. Why do you pretend not to know me? Why are you with her? You're trying to make me jealous, aren't you?"

Under the dim light, Julia's face held a hint of sorrow.

She'd always seemed so fake—so insincere—but now, surprisingly, there was a hint of genuine feeling in her.

Sherry heard every word.

She'd always felt something was off about Lucas. His actions never quite added up.

But he'd told her not to worry.

She'd convinced herself it wasn't her business. Right now, she just needed to make money, then get the divorce.

Kurt watched Sherry's hands clench, his eyes full of shock. This woman—was she really...

He had to stop her. He needed to cut off that idea fast. If she really figured things out and insisted on divorcing Gilbert...
