They were talking trash about Sherry behind her back, then telling her to be the bigger person.
Even as an outsider standing right there, Max found that infuriating. His face darkened instantly.
The manager kept rambling on, saying it was Sherry's first day and she should stay out of trouble for her own good...
"Saying all that—why don't you just tell everyone who your backer is?"
Sherry's line shocked everyone present.
Everyone already knew, but no one expected her to say it so bluntly. And they did have a backer.
"It's me."
The voice dripped with arrogance.
The woman looked every bit a huge star, head-to-toe in luxury brands. She stepped up to Sherry and pulled off her expensive sunglasses.
She was looking down her nose at Sherry—so much so that Sherry could barely see her eyes.
She was definitely beautiful.
But...
"Are you Jade Voss?"
"Good, your eyes still work. Then again, I'm that famous."
She had a nice voice and a pretty face, and Jade knew she'd be a household name soon.
"As a talented newcomer like me, I'm confident I'll take home both Best Newcomer and Best Actress by the end of the year. Don't act shocked—people like me break records. Getting to know me now is your privilege.
"For someone at your level to see me in person? You should feel honored. Someone like you would never get close to my face without dropping millions. Know your place and take my bags."
She shoved her expensive luggage toward Sherry.
Her stare was like a master looking at a servant.
In her mind, letting Sherry carry her things was a gift.
She expected Sherry to bow and scrape.
Sherry even saw several women nearby snickering to themselves.
Their expressions said: There you are, groveling again. So you really did get kicked out and came here trying to act tough.
Now you just made a fool of yourself.
Serves you right.
It was normal for companies to do background checks. If an artist had major scandals, investing in them would cost the company a fortune.
So for safety, they'd sign an agreement and look into their past—just to make sure there were no red flags.
And the artists agreed willingly. Sign that paper, and they got top resources right after their debut. It was a mutual choice.
But to Jade, that file was supposed to be her big break. She'd even heard Lucas might read it, so she'd poured everything into it.
Even on the page, you could see her trying hard to sell herself. She made sure she looked like a natural beauty with minimal touch-ups.
She was completely confident in herself.
But deep down, she was mortified at how eager she'd sounded in writing.
If men saw it, they'd just think she was cute and flirty. But a woman—especially a stunning one like Sherry?
It was like being stripped naked in public. Every dirty little thought, every calculated move—Sherry had seen it all.
Her face flushed with shame and rage.
"Why did you look at my file? Who gave you the right? Who do you think you are? My profile was for—"
