Gilbert immediately carried Wendy on his back, while Sherry could only limp along behind them.

She was genuinely in pain. The others, however, thought she was still pretending after her secret was exposed, making her look even more ridiculous.

Every step she took was like a clown’s.

From that day on, Sherry never let Gilbert carry her again, no matter how much pain she was in.

Tyrone called for paramedics to bring a stretcher. Sherry was lifted onto the stretcher, bypassing Gilbert’s back.

Gilbert felt a void behind him, just like his heart. Something was gradually fading away, and he felt a growing emptiness in his heart.

He stood up, slightly embarrassed.

While Sherry was being taken to get stitches, Wendy was anxiously waiting in the hospital. Normally, if she had even the slightest injury, even like a splinter in her finger, Gilbert would be there immediately. But so much time had passed. Even if he was at the company, even if there was traffic, he should have arrived by

now.

Wendy had just stepped out of her room when she saw Gilbert already there. It seemed he didn’t know which room she was in. Judging from his flustered appearance, he was probably frantic with worry.

“Gilbert,” Wendy said, leaning closer, but Gilbert pushed her away. He needed to keep his distance from a woman he considered a sister.

Wendy, feeling a pang of resentment, continued, “Gilbert, my room/is right here. Were you so worried about me that you couldn’t find my room?”

Just then, a doctor came out of another room. “Mrs. Bode’s condition…”

Upon hearing “Mrs. Bode,” Wendy’s smile vanished instantly, How could Sherry have been out of jail for only one day? And now she was even coming to the hospital to play the victim.

“Sherry went too far. She beat me up like this. I’m the victim here. What injury could she be faking? With the police around, what injury could she possibly have? She just saw Gilbert’s concern for me when I was injured, so she copied me. Let me tell you, makeup techniques are really good these days. Gilbert, don’t worry. It’s all fake.”

Wendy thought Gilbert would believe her as always. Sure enough, she saw Gilbert’s gloomy face and thought he would start yelling at Sherry as usual.

She didn’t expect Gilbert’s gloomy eyes to be fixed on her. “You saw that Sherry was faking her injury?”

“Do I need to see? Sherry always does this, using such extreme methods to get your attention. It’s ridiculous. Gilbert, you need to do something about her. It’s shameful.”

Wendy was startled by the shout. “Did Sherry say something? Gilbert, don’t believe her. She’s a liar.”

Gilbert said, enunciating each word clearly, “I said, shut up!”

Gilbert’s eyes were bloodshot.

In his mind, Sherry had always been manipulative and doing things to target Wendy.

But now, Wendy, unaware of what was happening, was already slandering Sherry, speaking with such conviction.

If he had met Wendy first and heard what she said, would he have believed her immediately?

This thought sent chills down Gilbert’s spine.

If so, had he wronged Sherry before?

“Wendy, how many times have you told lies like this?”

Wendy’s heart raced instantly. Why had Gilbert suddenly changed? “I’m not lying.”

Gilbert’s obvious disbelief in her eyes irritated her.

Tyrone crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. “Sherry was injured after being bailed out of prison by the Campbells and dumped in Black Mountain. I brought her back. Ms. Mack, it seems you’re quite good at lying and framing.”

Wendy hated Tyrone.

He not only frequently exposed Sherry’s misdeeds but also often accused her of being fake.

But she would never admit she was wrong. “I really wasn’t lying. I don’t believe anything could have happened to her in prison. It’s not wrong for me to question her. Sherry often does things that are hard to believe, so I…”

Wendy bit her lip. Gilbert clearly didn’t trust her.

She already knew what to do if this happened.

Wendy covered her face. “What’s wrong with saying a few bad things about her because I hate her? I didn’t hit her! And she’s not disfigured!”
