Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 393

"So you're just wearing fakes. If you can't afford nice clothes, don't pretend. It's pathetic." Claire pulled a brooch off her coat and tossed it at Sherry.

"You obviously don't know anything about quality. Take this and give me the invitation. It's worth way more than your silly ticket."

She looked utterly smug, like Sherry had just hit the jackpot.

In reality, Teresa had bought the brooch for her when she was little—worth a few dollars at most.

She figured Sherry, who supposedly wore knockoffs, couldn't tell real from fake anyway. She'd think everything Claire owned was priceless.

Even if Sherry found out later how cheap it was, Claire could just say it was her first gift as a mother.

It shouldn't matter even if it cost nothing; Sherry should be moved to tears and stash it away like treasure.

Either way, Sherry was getting the better deal.

Now that Sherry was free from her family, she realized the people who once looked down on her like gods were just idiots.

"Cut the arrogant act. I used to respect you because you were my mother. Now you mean nothing to me. You think I'm stupid enough to fall for a two-dollar brooch?"

Claire was shocked that Sherry could actually tell. How could some poor girl know the difference?

"How dare you speak to me like that!" Claire shrieked.

How could Sherry dare?

"I dare more than that. I can have you thrown out." Sherry turned to the two guards. "How do you handle people who cause trouble here?"

They answered respectfully, "We remove them."

But they didn't think they'd actually get to stand up for themselves. She was Sherry's mother, so they thought they'd just have to swallow the insult.

"Then do your jobs."

Sherry sat back down.

Everyone froze.

"Sherry! You can't let them touch me! I'm your mother!"

But the guards finally had a shot at payback. No way they were passing it up. What if Sherry changed her mind later?

Claire was grabbed and lifted off the ground.

Panic flashed across her face.

"Sherry! If you throw me out, you'll never hold your head up again! You'll be the ungrateful daughter who attacked her own mother! I'll post this online and ruin you!
