Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 440

Instead of coming out ahead, she ended up in a worse spot than before.

It would absolutely drive Sherry up the wall!

She had already paid for and secured the location. Standing before the massive floor-to-ceiling window, she was picturing her unstoppable, brilliant future.

Then someone stumbled through the door.

It startled Julia. She shot a sharp look at the person who'd entered and said, "Look at you—always running around like a chicken with its head cut off. You haven't learned the first thing about keeping your cool.

"No wonder you've been around Gilbert this long, with someone like Sherry—just a regular suburban mom—to measure yourself against.

"And he still hasn't chosen you. Look at how you carry yourself. I'm a woman and even I can't stand it."

Naturally, Melissa felt terrible being talked down to like that.

The real reason she'd rushed off was this woman, who addressed her in a demeaning, condescending tone.

Fine—she'd see just how unshakable Julia really was.

But that thought only lasted a second, because she knew Julia wasn't someone to mess with.

That was exactly why she'd dropped her partnership with Sherry and jumped ship to Julia's side. To this day, she'd never once seen Julia truly rattled.

She handled everything smoothly, like she had the whole world on a string.

Even when things went sideways, she always found a way to clean it up afterward.

Thinking about that, Melissa did feel a little deflated.

Still, it stung. Everyone liked to think they were special—nobody wanted to play second fiddle.

Julia wasn't even from around here originally. She'd shown up not too long ago and was already outperforming Melissa, which made it even harder to swallow.

But she kept looking at Julia expectantly. She refused to believe this woman had no weak spots.

"I just got this photo.

"You won't believe who I saw. Sherry is in Keiperian."

At first, Julia didn't think much of it.

She'd already taken care of the people she hated the most.

The annoying crowd from the entertainment industry hadn't earned their way into this scene yet. So what could possibly go wrong?

How pathetic.

But when she heard that, her whole body stiffened midway into sitting down. She recovered quickly, though.

She settled into the chair.

"I've been really busy lately. Don't waste my time with nonsense like that.

"Didn't I tell you? Sherry's in some psychiatric facility right now, living like an animal. I don't make mistakes.

"Just be patient, and you'll get everything you're after."

Melissa rolled her eyes. Did Julia think she was some kind of charity case? "Take a good look at this picture. It came straight from your own people!
