They even thought Sherry was partly to blame. If she had contacted them sooner, it wouldn’t have happened.

But Sherry had called them many times, and they all thought she was overreacting.

They thought she couldn’t handle the hardship and was using this as an excuse to escape the school. So they discouraged her from doing so, telling the teachers she couldn’t drop out and had to graduate.

They could have easily found out what she was going through. But because Claire trusted Freya completely, she didn’t interfere.

In the end, it all became Sherry’s fault.

So, given evidence, she would never again swallow her bitterness for any favor.

They had all hurt her.

Could she still expect them to be good people?

Was she supposed to wait for them to point fingers and accuse her of being wrong too?

But Gilbert didn’t think so. Sherry had been deeply hurt, but taking a step back would open up a world of possibilities. People would remember her kindness this time.

“Isn’t it good that your relationship with the Campbells is improving? Two insignificant people have already received punishments worse than going to jail. Teresa is your sister. Sending her to jail will affect the entire Campbell family! Do you know how much Wendy paid? Her parents died trying to save mine. Wendy said she’s willing to relinquish that debt of gratitude and will no longer be an obstacle between us. Everything is getting better. Why do you have to make things so complicated?”

Thinking of this, Gilbert started speaking recklessly. “No wonder you were the victim back then, yet your family didn’t like you. You should look for the reasons within yourself. Do you expect everyone to cater to you? You’re not a child anymore. Everyone is accommodating you. Anyone would get tired of that!”

Hearing this, Sherry saw the exact same look of the Campbells in Gilbert’s eyes.

The heartache Wendy caused her, the excruciating pain of donating blood, and all the harm she had suffered before couldn’t compare to the devastating impact of those words. Her mind was reeling.

She had told Gilbert more than once that the Campbells would end up like this.

Gilbert said it was their fault, and he would never be like them.

But now they were exactly the same.

Sherry said, word by word, “Give me the camera!”

Gilbert stood up, his voice laced with malice. “No. Because I destroyed the camera.”

“You destroyed it?” Sherry looked at him incredulously. “I don’t believe you. Give me the camera!”

If the camera was destroyed, then everything she had suffered would have been for nothing. She wouldn’t have a chance to seek justice.

She thought she had grown up, that she could speak up for herself.

But Gilbert said he had destroyed it. How could she accept that?

She lunged forward and grabbed Gilbert’s neck tightly. “Give me back the camera! That’s my evidence. What right did you have to destroy it? What right do you have? Who do you think you are?”

Sherry screamed like a madwoman, her voice breaking. She gripped Gilbert tightly, as if she wanted to strangle him to death. “For Wendy? You destroyed the evidence because you didn’t want to expose her true colors? Why did you do this to me? Why?”

Gilbert couldn’t understand why Sherry was acting like a madwoman. He had already explained it to her.

This had nothing to do with Wendy. Wendy was also a victim. He destroyed the camera simply to put an end to it and avoid further complications.

“Sherry, what are you doing? Look yourself in the mirror!”

Gilbert coldly watched her.
