“Not just anyone can come into your house?” Sherry’s smile was utterly sarcastic. “Back then, everyone avoided you like the plague. You haven’t forgotten what those rich girls who flock to you now said about you, have you?”
Lore remembered it clearly. Because of her arrogance, she had offended many people, resulting in considerable backlash.
“But they still have the money and power to support the Bode family. And what about you? Besides being a maid to Gilbert, what else can you do? You’ve done so little and you’re complaining? I’m even more aggrieved. My son deserves a better woman! But he married you. It’s a misfortune for our family!”
At this point, she didn’t care anymore. She wanted Sherry to recognize her place.
She uttered harsh words, showing no respect for Sherry.
Even Gilbert felt suffocated listening to her. They were so impolite in front of him. What if he wasn’t there?
Could what Sherry said be true? They weren’t treating Sherry well behind his back?
“You guys are really something. You’ve shown the epitome of ingratitude. You discarded me when you no longer needed me,” Sherry said to Gilbert. “Now you see their true colors? I only have one demand. A divorce and half the assets. Otherwise, I’ll make your lives a living hell.”
Lore accused Sherry. “See? She comes from a small family. I only lectured her and she gets so arrogant and without manners! Half the assets? What right do you have to take a share of our assets? It seems I was too lenient with her back then!”
Gilbert’s face gradually darkened. “You mean this is true? You treat her like this all the time?”
Lore raised his chin. “Yes! I wasn’t wrong. Marriage is about matching social standing. The Bode family is at its peak now, while the Campbell family is still not good. Sherry is simply not good enough for you!”
“Shut up!” Gilbert roared.
Lore trembled with fear. Seeing that she was the only one trembling among them, she felt ashamed and became even angrier. “Shut up? You dare talk to me like that for a piece of trash? I’m your mother!”
“Sherry is my wife. Is this how you treat her?” Gilbert felt utterly exhausted. “From now on, you’ll stay in Bode Villa and never come out again.”
“What do you mean? You’re going to imprison me? I’m your mother! You should listen to me and kick her
out!”
Gilbert was icy cold. “Take her away!”
Lore was roughly lifted up.
“Don’t touch me with your lowly hands!” Lore glared fiercely at Sherry. “Sherry, you’re trying to drive a

Sherry tried to stop her. “Stop.”

Lore straightened up again. She knew Sherry wouldn’t dare do anything to her. “Humph. Don’t think I’ll forgive you just because you’re begging me now. Apologize now and I’ll forgive you this once.”
Sherry said, “I want you to apologize to me.”
Lore’s smug smile vanished. “What did you say? You want me to apologize to you? Then I’ll teach you a lesson on behalf of the Campbells!”
She rolled up her sleeves, ready to hit Sherry, but Gilbert stopped her. “Mom, apologize to Sherry. You were wrong about this.”
“What?” Lore couldn’t believe her ears. “You actually want me to apologize? Absolutely not! Cathy, look at Gilbert. He’s been bewitched by this woman into making me apologize to her. I don’t want to live anymore!”
Cathy looked at Gilbert. “Gilbert, you’re not going to make me apologize to her too, are you? Don’t forget I’m the victim!”
“Did you say those things?”
“Yes, I did. But…”
“Apologize!”
Cathy’s eyes widened. “Gilbert, you want me apologize to her too? Did I suffer for nothing? Are all the humiliations I endured just wiped away?”
Gilbert thought about Sherry’s repeated mentions of divorce, which didn’t seem like a reluctant rejection. Even so, he’d side with her this time, to avoid her later saying he never stood behind her.
“Sherry suffered the same humiliation. It’s even now.”
They’d both vented their anger.
He was fair and impartial, not taking sides.
