Before I could say anything else, Nate pulled me into a tight hug, lifting me slightly off the floor as he celebrated my answer. I felt his strong arms around my waist, his laughter vibrating against my chest in a way that made me completely melt.

“I’d already mentally prepared an entire persuasion speech,” he said near my ear, his voice full of relief and happiness. “Logical arguments about financial practicality, emotional appeals about how amazing it would be to wake up together every day, maybe even a presentation with charts showing the projected increase in our happiness.”

I laughed out loud, picturing Nate in full executive mode, creating detailed slides about the statistical benefits of living together, complete with upward-trending happiness graphs.

“I don’t doubt it for a second,” I said, still in his arms, savoring the sense of safety he always gave me. “And since I know I’d stand absolutely no chance against a well-structured presentation from the COO of Kensington Euradia with peer-reviewed data and everything, I’m accepting before you even start.”

Nate set me back on the floor and kissed me deeply, passionately. The kiss carried relief, promise, and a shared future, along with a gratitude I could feel in the way his lips moved against mine. It was the kind of kiss that sealed important decisions. The kind that marked the beginning of a new chapter.

When we pulled apart, we were both smiling like teenagers who’d just decided to run away together.

“But…” I started, and Nate immediately laughed, shaking his head as if he’d been expecting it.

“Of course there’s a ‘but,” he said, genuinely amused. “I was wondering how long it would take. You made it an impressive thirty seconds.”

“As much as I love this house,” I said, gesturing around at the elegant space with its expensive furniture and flawless décor, “it’s your sanctuary. And a sanctuary I know you enjoyed very thoroughly when you were single.”

Nate made a slightly guilty face, running a hand through his hair, clearly knowing exactly what I meant.

“I may have hosted a few… visitors over the years,” he admitted with awkward honesty.

“I’d rather…” I continued, trying not to dwell too much on those visitors, “have something smaller. Somewhere that doesn’t require a whole staff to maintain, where I don’t feel like a guest in someone else’s home. A place that feels like me too. Our place. Something we build from the beginning, together.”

Nate nodded thoughtfully, already looking like he was mentally sorting through real estate options in his investment portfolio.

“That’s no problem at all,” he said immediately. “I own several residential properties around the city. Some with views of the Thames, others in Notting Hill, a few modern ones in Canary Wharf. We can visit as many as you want until you find one that makes your eyes light up.”

“For once, I’m the one who didn’t think it would be that easy,” I admitted, genuinely surprised by how quickly he agreed. “I thought I’d have to argue about how beautiful this house is but how impersonal it feels to me.”

“That’s what relationships are about, right?” he said with a smile that reminded me exactly why I’d fallen in love with him. “Each person giving a little. Finding the middle ground that works for both. And honestly, the idea of starting from scratch by choosing everything together actually is even more romantic.”

His answer warmed my heart in a way I hadn’t expected. I took his hand and tugged him toward the living room sofa.

“Let’s finish that bottle of wine,” I suggested, pointing to the table where the open bottles from dinner were still waiting.

We settled into the soft leather sofa, Nate carefully pouring the remaining wine into our glasses while I curled up against his side, enjoying the warmth of his body through his shirt.
