Chapter 353
There we were again, in business class. We were seated side by side with our hands intertwined over the armrest. The only difference was that now I wore a gold band that caught the cabin light with a soft glow, and the man next to me was no longer an attractive stranger I’d just met-he was my husband.
A few months ago, sitting in this very position, I never could’ve imagined I’d be married to the man who had 1 en the seat beside me on a plane. And now, here we were, about to have one child, and about to adopt another. Already blessed with the most loving little dog in the world.
Ginger had flown back on a private jet with Oliver and Sarah playing babysitters. The rest of the family took advantage of the fancy ride too. But Nate and I chose a commercial flight. We still couldn’t have an official honeymoon until we went through the proper tests and got the doctor’s approval, but we could allow ourselves a little nostalgia.
“Still afraid of flying?” Nate asked, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.
“As long as there’s no semi-moral turbulence, I’ll survive,” I replied, making him laugh.
“If there is, I’ll be right here to calm you down,” he said, his green eyes sparkling with amusement.
“You know exactly how to do that,” I laughed, feeling that familiar warmth spread through my chest.
I glanced around the cabin, remembering that first flight. How everything had started with a seemingly innocent conversation that turned into something so much more. A mischievous smile curved my lips.
“You know,” I said, starting to unbuckle my seatbelt, “why wait?”
I made a subtle gesture toward the restroom, and Nate nearly choked on his drink.
“Annie,” he said, laughing under his breath, “you know we can’t. We have to wait until the doctor clears us…
“We can’t do everything,” I agreed, leaning closer. “But we can… have a little fun.”
“Annabelle Bennett-sorry, Annabelle Carter,” Nate said, shaking his head with amused disbelief, “talking about… fun?”
“Of course,” I replied, rising gracefully. “Because now, nothing is going to stop me from having fun forever… by my husband’s side.”
I kissed him quickly, savoring the familiar taste of his lips, then took a few steps toward the aisle. I turned back, looking over my shoulder with that smile I knew drove him crazy.
“Are you coming?”
And he would. Because Nathaniel Carter had learned the most important lesson of his life: when you find your forever, you never let it slip away.
– End of Annabelle and Nathaniel’s arc-
Thank you for staying with Annie until she found her true love, but our journey continues.
One love story ends, another begins.
