Hired a Gigolo Got a Billionaire (Zoey and Christian) novel Chapter 640

Chapter 640

Nicholas’ POV

I don’t really remember how I got to the car.

One second I was standing in my bedroom, gripping my phone so tightly it hurt, listening to Dante’s strained voice say, “Gwen was in a serious accident. She’s in emergency surgery right now.”

The next, I was running down the stairs with my keys in my hand.

Martina appeared out of nowhere as I rushed past the kitchen.

“Nick?” she called, alarmed. “What happened? You’re pale.”

“I have to go,” was all I managed to say without slowing down, without really looking at her. “Emergency in Florentia. Please take care of Bella when she gets back from her friend’s house.”

I didn’t wait for confirmation. I didn’t wait for questions. I couldn’t.

I pushed out the door, crossed the yard in long, unsteady strides.

I got into the car, shoved the key into the ignition with visibly shaking hands, and started the engine. It growled unevenly.

Dante had rattled off the address before hanging up. A private hospital in Florentia. A long name I barely registered. I just punched it into the GPS with trembling fingers and followed the mechanical voice.

I slammed my foot on the gas before I’d even fully cleared the dirt lot.

The road blurred around me. Trees melted into green streaks. The blue sky smeared overhead. Gray asphalt raced beneath the tires.

Curves I usually took carefully, respecting both the road and the age of my car, I cut through aggressively. Pushing the limit. Maybe past it.

I didn’t care.

Gwen was in emergency surgery.

Surgery meant serious injuries. Real risk. It meant she could-

No.

I refused to let my mind finish that thought.

She was going to be fine. She had to be. There was no other acceptable outcome

But Dante’s voice on the phone hadn’t sounded remotely calm. It hadn’t sounded reassuring. It had sounded too controlled, like someone trying desperately not to fall apart.

I gripped the worn leather steering wheel so hard my fingers cramped I forced myself to push away the

I didn’t knock. I didn’t announce myself. I just pushed it open.

Christian, Zoey, Dante, and Mia were already inside.

Christian sat stiffly in a plush armchair, elbows on his knees, large hands clasped tightly together, staring at the floor without really seeing it. Zoey sat beside him, one comforting hand resting on her husband’s tense shoulder. Mia paced near the wide window overlooking the city. Dante leaned against the opposite wall, looking casual at first glance, but his posture gave him away.

Tense. Coiled.

They all turned their heads at once when I walked in.

“What happened?” I demanded before anyone could speak. “What happened to her? Tell me everything.”

Christian just looked at me for a few long seconds.

“Serious accident on the road to Montelira,” he said finally. His voice was controlled, but the tension underneath was impossible to miss. “Apparently she tried to pass another vehicle and a truck came from the opposite direction. She swerved, but lost control of the car.”

My throat tightened.

“But how is she now?” I asked urgently, my voice cracking despite my effort to hold it steady. “Is she okay? Is she going to be okay? Is she going to recover?”

A heavy silence swallowed the room. No one answered right away.

Mia was the one who finally spoke. Her voice was soft, and she sounded exhausted.

“She’s still in surgery,” she said carefully. “We’ll know more when the procedure is over. The doctors promised to come speak to the family personally.”

My legs nearly gave out. I dropped into one of the expensive upholstered chairs without even meaning to.

“But she’s going to be fine, right?” I pressed, desperation clawing up my chest. I looked from face to face, searching for reassurance. “She’s not in life-threatening danger, is she? She’s going to survive this… right?”

Another awful silence

Christian looked away. Mia bit her lower lip. Dante studied the floor like it held answers.

No one was giving me what I needed to hear.

Zoey was the one who moved.

She walked over slowly and knelt in front of me. She took my trembling hands in hers.

“She’s going to be fine,” she said with a conviction so steady it almost broke me. I didn’t know if she truly believed it or if she was just being brave for all of us. “She’s a Kensington. And this family… we know

how to fight the impossible.”

I nodded over and over, even though I wasn’t sure what I was agreeing to. Faith? I had that. I just wanted certainty. And no one could give me that.

Zoey squeezed my hands once more before standing and returning quietly to Christian’s side.

I stayed there, elbows on my knees, head bowed between my hands.

“What do I do now?” I muttered under my breath, mostly to myself.

I heard footsteps approach.

Dante appeared beside me, holding out a small plastic cup. Steam curled from the top. The sharp, bitter scent of strong coffee hit my nose.

“Right now?” he said simply. “You drink. And we wait.”
