Even though Alicia had approached him with ulterior motives, she still couldn’t help but feel touched by Austin’s gesture.

“Yes.”

She lifted her hand, allowing Austin to slide a beautiful diamond ring onto her finger.

There was no give or pinch. It was a perfect fit.

Her eyes flickered with surprise. “When did you get this?”

“Did you really think all the times I held your hand were for nothing?” Austin replied in jest.

She took the roses from him and hugged his waist. “Thank you.”

He shrugged off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders, as she was only wearing a thin nightgown. “Are you pleased?”

She wrapped around his neck with an impish smile. “More than, Mr. Burton. However, I will be over the moon if we get our marriage registered.”

“I’ll pick you up at 9 a.m. We’ll get our marriage registered at the City Hall.”

Their eyes never left each other, and she could see her own reflection in his dark eyes. Her lips curved into a genuine smile. “Alright.”

A gentle breeze blew past, sending the rose petals scattering through the lake. The hem of her dress fluttered alongside the soft wind, creating a scene so breathtaking that it would be forever etched in her

memory.

Alicia was up before dawn. When she rolled out of her bed, she wasted no time beelining to her wardrobe and donning a crisp white blouse. Then, she tied her hair into a neat ponytail and applied some light makeup.

Before she could go downstairs, she overheard Aria’s voice around the corner, whispering, “Mom, you have to make sure she drinks the soup. She won’t be able to meet the Burton family once her face breaks out in

hives.

“I’ll have a shot at winning Mr. David over without her interference!”

Then, she heard Kyana’s cold and bitter voice. “She forced our hand. That little wretch has overstayed her welcome by taking what is meant to be yours. She can’t blame us for fighting back.”

The small smile that had been on Alicia’s face flattened as her face turned cold. She pressed the red button on the screen of her phone, ending the recording.

Her heart ached at the thought that her mother had once fallen victim to the same vile tricks.

I’m going to expose these snakes one day, she thought vehemently,

When a maid brought her the soup, Alicia smiled politely and informed the woman that she would drink it

after it cooled. Once she was alone, she immediately poured the whole bowl down the toilet.

By the time the maid returned, the bowl was already empty. So, she happily went off to tell Kyana that the

mission was a success.

The sun was shining brightly at 9 a.m. The cheery skies were as buoyant as Alicia’s mood.

Austin’s gaze couldn’t help but linger on her when he saw her leaving the house in white. She looked pure and fresh-faced.

“All set?”

She nodded and handed him her ID. “Of course. I’ve got everything handled.”

“This is a big deal. Are you sure you don’t want to tell your father about this? You’re going to be my legal wife. I don’t want you to feel wronged in any way,” he said.

She looked out at the shifting scenery, saying lightly, “He’s never cared about me. Why would he care about something like this?”

Something dark flickered in Austin’s eyes as he reached over to take her hand in his.

The entire process went smoothly. Soon, they were both holding their marriage certificate.

Alicia gazed down at their photo, her eyes growing wet.

“Austin, can you come with me?” she asked softly.

“Of course.”

She brought him to her mother’s grave, where they placed a bouquet of flowers before the tombstone together.

She crouched down, placed their marriage certificate on the gravel, and murmured, “Mom, I’m married. This is my husband, Austin Burton. I’m still keeping my promise to you to live well. I’m doing really well, Mom.”

She fell silent for a moment before vowing resolutely, “And soon, I’ll get what’s mine back.”

Austin clasped her hand and faced the cold, lifeless headstone. “Ms. Ferrer, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of

her.”

As night fell, the Gibson family paid a visit to the Burton family.

David had cleaned himself up. Although he was still far thinner than before, his striking looks hadn’t faded the slightest.

As a result, Aria was smitten the second she laid eyes on him, blushing as she greeted him. “Good evening, Mr. David.”

“Ms. Gibson,” he replied evenly, giving her a quick once-over. He instantly noted that her looks were only slightly above average.
